**Role of a Trustee at The Maritime Volunteer Service**As a Trustee with The Maritime Volunteer Service (MVS), I play a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the organisation's mission to promote maritime skills and volunteerism across the UK. My responsibilities include providing strategic oversight and governance, ensuring that the MVS operates in alignment with its charitable objectives while adhering to legal and regulatory requirements.Collaborating closely with fellow board members, I contribute to the development of policies and initiatives that enhance the effectiveness of our volunteer programmes. Environment Agency (EA)Fisheries, Biodiversity and Geomorphology- Fisheries Enforcement Officer. 2024-presentAs a Fisheries Enforcement Officer (FEO), I am responsible for delivering targeted and intelligence-led patrols to combat illegal fishing, fish removal, and byelaw offences. This role involves conducting rod licence checks, surveillance both physical and technical, engaging positively with customers and partners to promote fishing, and ensuring compliance with fisheries legislation.To undertake High Impact Fisheries Enforcement work, I hold a full warrant under the Salmon and Freshwater Fisheries Act 1975 (SAFA) and maintain a high level of training. Developing a comprehensive understanding of fisheries legislation, offences, and reporting procedures.Working closely with a wide range of partners and enforcement agencies, including the Police, the Inshore Fisheries and Conservation Authorities (IFCAs), and the Marine Management Organisation (MMO). I handle incident response, facilitate conflict resolution, and compile reports and case notes for enforcement action. The role also involves collaborating with other teams to protect and enhance the water environment for fisheries. This includes providing advice on high-risk permits, consents, licences, and planning applications to safeguard biodiversity, fisheries, and ecosystems. Additionally, I contribute to raising awareness of angling opportunities through promotion and publicity efforts, implementing the rod licence checking programme, responding to incidents, and engaging in river habitat enhancement work.Overall, as a Fisheries Enforcement Officer, I am dedicated to ensuring the preservation and improvement of the water environment for the benefit of fisheries, wildlife, and all stakeholders involved.

I move between operational and training roles to ensure the maintenance of exceptional levels of competency and skill, providing firearms response capability to support the wider unarmed organisation. I provide 24/7 armed policing response to planned and spontaneous events, ensuring legal compliance within this tightly legislated service. This role requires the most observant and considered attention whilst providing a visible and effective deterrent.

Responsible for the delivery of training and ongoing development of firearms officers, I review current practices and the design and deliver learning, supporting the development of critical skills and building operational resilience. I ensure all courses meet the highest standards and that stringent safety and legal compliance requirements are consistently met. I drive effectiveness and expertise, conducting dynamic risk assessments during training. I lead a range of courses including: • Authorised Firearms Officer (AFO) – Instructing officers wishing to qualify as an AFO, I deliver this highly specialised training, ensuring exceptional standards in the use of firearms and firearms tactics. I also deliver ongoing training and development to qualified firearms officers, facilitating learning and the effective and relevant development of a range of skills to enable the delivery of advanced operational tactics and protocols in this high risk service.• Weapons - I am a specialist trainer in the handling and application of various weapons. • National Taser Instructor - I deliver training in the appropriate and legal application of this non-lethal option. Ensuring exacting levels of proficiency to pass this challenging course. An authority in this area, I contributed to a national pilot programme to develop taser use by officers who were not firearms trained. • Officer Safety Instructor - Developing officers at all ranks, I provide refresher training in the application of skills and ensure policing methods are applied lawfully, safely and effectively. • Medic Instructor - I provide tactical based first aid training using oxygen, haemostatics, tourniquets, CPR, defibrillator and advanced triage; providing refreshers and upskilling to medic level and provide new firearms officers with ballistic first aid.• Police Fitness Instructor - A qualified gym instructor, I provide routines and circuit training for students and other instructors.

I provided static protective security around premises of elevated risk and the official establishments of countries and international organisations represented in the UK. My role included the appropriate capture of intelligence, management of critical environments and ensuring compliance with exacting legal requirements. Within this sensitive position, I served as a liaison point, providing resilient communication between diplomatic contacts and key government and police personnel. I conducted armed patrols around vulnerable premises, conducting often time critical responses to emerging issues, planning routes and liaising with diplomatic and government staff. I demonstrated clear understanding of evolving risk and vulnerability, including readiness for rapid deployment of a range of tactical measures and armed response to disrupt, deter and detect threat and risk activity. I brought a calm and approachable demeanour to this challenging role; ensuring that, whilst heavily armed, I offered safety and not alarm to the general public. Working in high profile settings, posed particular terrorist threat and often attracted attention from individuals suffering from mental illness who posed a danger to themselves and those around them. The ability to think quickly and accurately in heightened circumstances was essential knowing there may be a need to make split second judgement calls on situations and developing threats. I was selected to serve as Acting Police Sergeant for extended times. This included two years where I managed a dedicated training unit, scheduling training, organising instructors and liaising with senior officers and department leaders. I managed training, tactics and equipment alongside the general day to day running of the unit.

I undertook a variety of operational roles, including providing immediate response to critical incidents and for the management of a wide range of operational activities. I brought a thoughtful and considered approach to my work, processing information quickly and accurately and exercising effective conflict management skills and an ability to connect meaningfully with people even in the most challenging of circumstances. Alongside my regular duties, I worked on an on call basis in often confrontational public order situations from street disorder, demonstrations, sporting events and critical incidents.
