I specialize in team and social collaboration. I worked for 20 years on DoD sponsored R&D relating to military intelligence processing, secured several million dollars of Government research funding, and was granted several patents covering key components of social networking technologies.~My research expertise revolves around innovating tools and methods for computer mediated team and social collaboration. The research is rooted in design theory and artificial intelligence, and focused on fostering human creativity, innovation and problem-solving.My general expertise includes project management, advanced user interface design, information visualization, and content optimization (making complex concepts and processes better understandable and explainable through storytelling and technical illustrations).~My interest in collaboration technologies derives from my studies in workplace design, collaborative work and artificial intelligence, as well as from my military service in an early computer networked command and control environment. The culmination of these experiences led to funding for team-collaboration technologies in military intelligence environments [1], and subsequently for team-collaboration technologies in educational and corporate settings [2].[1] My research relating to military intelligence focuses on facilitating indirect and decentralized forms of team collaboration, where participants may or may not know who they collaborate with or what they contribute to, and where individual efforts inadvertently contribute to common objectives. Application examples include technology solutions for improving the intelligence exchange in command-and-control environments, for estimating the expertise of individual intelligence analysts, for decentralizing the management of intelligence data, and for accelerating the information flow up and down the chain of command.[2] My research relating to educational and corporate settings focuses on leveraging human creativity within the context of generative AI. For this I study the sequences in which people accumulate and assemble information when they learn, comprehend and construct new knowledge. Application examples include technology solutions for collecting and sequencing content, as well as for customizing and compacting content for specific audiences.
