As a member of the Process Development Team, I developed new processes to assist our GMP Production Space. Here I learned how to develop and execute experiments to answer specific questions or concerns to assist our team to make more informed decisions. This could range from finding the most effective reagents or materials in our process to finding points to save time or resources.Learned tissue culture techniques for iPSCs and focused on the development and optimization of a cryopreservation procedure.

Assisted several labs across multiple disciplines, such as plant pathology and entomology, to assist in carrying out research projects. Performed genetic testing for the presence of plant pathogens in field insects, gaining experience in PCR and gel electrophoresis. More general duties included lab upkeep and cleaning, preparation of stock media and reagents, data entry, organization of spreadsheets, and communication and summarization of data and results to research leads.

Lead several projects and carried out research in a laboratory setting. Gained experience in animal handling, electrophoresis gel, cell culture, aseptic technique, ELISA, flow cytometry, and media preparation. I participated in several projects in my lab, but my main focus was my personal project involving the study on the immunological effects of elderberry extract supplements. I received the COTS-SURE grant from CWU to finance my research and presented my findings at a research symposium.

I served as a teacher's assistant to Dr. Gabriel Stryker for Microbiology during the Fall of 2020. I assisted Dr. Stryker with weekly lab sessions by working with students as they had questions about lab procedure and video recorded the session for students that could not attend in person. I answered questions from students on Canvas and graded assignments throughout the quarter.
