My previous role was commissioning/service engineer for a small engineering company specialising in machinery for the wire manufacturing industry. This includes machines such as winders, furnaces and taping machines. My job involves travelling to customers’ sites all over the world to commission, fault find and install their machinery. My primary field is the electrical side including PLC’s, drives and HMI’s but I am also fully conversant with pneumatics, hydraulics and all other mechanical aspects of the machine. A large part of my job is to solve design issues with the machines, preferably on site. Where this is not possible I am required to give good information to the design team and help them with finding a solution.I am also involved in writing and compiling manuals and training customers’ staff.

Field sales/product development engineer in the industrial energy efficiency market. Specialising in lighting, my duties included specifying suitable solutions to customers to optimise their lighting levels whilst saving energy. This involved site surveys, selection of correct products and presentation of our solutions to maintenance teams right through to financial and company directors. My duties also included development of new products, competitor research and invoicing/quoting.

Project manager for a small building contractor. I was responsible for day-to-day running of the jobs including staffing, materials supply, dealing with the clients and solving any problems regarding the building works. I also kept the books (using sage accounts) did the VAT returns and organised the payroll each week.

For the 6 years from ’99 to 2005, I was living in Portugal. Upon leaving, I had successfully set up an electrical contracting company with my Dutch business partner. The company had continued to grow and had acquired over 500 clients both commercial and private, mainly due to our commitment to reliability, customer service and sustainability. Our projects covered anything from replacing a light switch to a full photovoltaic and wind generating systems. I am a qualified “Outback power systems” engineer.We installed a number of systems from simple single panel 2kw rigs to our largest which was an 18kw rig using solar, wind and a backup generator.The customer for this system had built a house to then be told that to supply it with power would cost upwards of €50K. We specified a system costing €30K which had a peak capacity of 18kw using 6 “Outback Power” 48v inverters stacked in parallel.
