Founder of the Green Distributed Computing group at Umeå University in Sweden, with $5.8M in ongoing research grants. I am Scientific Coordinator of the EU "Horizon Europe" COGNIT project, Scientific Advisor and Co-PI of the WARA-Ops national research arena, a member of the national WASP Graduate School Management team, a research leader within the Umeå Autonomous Distributed Systems Lab, and a member of the Umeå University Computing Science Committee for Research. I am examiner/coordinator of the WASP Sweden national Cloud Computing PhD course and the Umeå University Cloud course (masters level). I supervise 4 PhD students (currently recruiting PhD student number five) and 2 post-docs. I also run a couple of research (ARISEN) and teaching (CETI) infrastructures based around Cloud-Edge environments.My research is centered around energy efficient and sustainable distributed systems - with a current focus on Cloud-Edge, Edge Intelligence, and Data Centres! Prior to this, my research (pre-2010) was largely in the area of system dependability and reliability. In the past: I spent over three years (2017-2020) as CTO of Edgetic Ltd, developing AI/ML solutions for improving performance and reducing cost in the Data Centre industry. Before that (2004-2017), I worked at the University of Leeds in the UK. I was Team Leader of the Distributed Systems and Services Group (under the overall management of Prof. Jie Xu), and lead architect and co-author on over $3 million of successful research projects. I led several UK-China research collaborations including the highly-successful COLAB project, through which I developed (and still have) strong links with the Chinese Computer Science community.
