While growing up in Arvada, I was an active athlete and had the opportunity to see how big a difference confidence made in ability, both in my teammates and me. I was always a strong athlete; however, I struggled academically. I graduated from Arvada West High School in 1986 and received my college degree in Behavioral Science from Metro State in 1991. Since then, I have had a number of wonderful mentors who helped instill in me a can-do attitude, which has helped me to successfully run two businesses and raise three wonderful children. I have always wanted to be a positive influence on the children in my neighborhood. I owned a licensed home day care business. After several years of loving and nurturing small kids in my home I went on to work with special needs children at a middle school. In addition to my work in Jefferson County, I have worked for the Parks and Recreation Department coaching recreational sports. By believing in them and showing them their full potential, I have had the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of children struggling with various issues. Helping build strong confidence in our youth is now something I have dedicated my life to.
