Hello, as a patient access manager I find that some days I wear many different hats. Besides supervisoring 25 clerks some days I find myself spending time with patients talking about their accounts, and helping them to understand the payment process of their insurance claims. I have been working in the healthcare field since 1986. I started out as a registration clerk at Rush Hospital in Meridian Ms and worked there until August of 1974. My famly and I returned to McComb Ms that year and I began my journey at Southwest Hospital. I began as a registration cerk and was then promoted to Supervisor. For 5 years I worked at Southwest as a registration supervisor and then resigned my job to travel with my husband. I returned to Southwest in the winter of 1999 and stayed at Southwest as an insurance biller until July 1,2004. My husband was still traveling all the time so I took a 2 year time out and traveled over the United States with him. I returend to Southwest in January of 2007 and have beein here ever since. I love working with patients talking with them and hellping them in anyway I possibly can. Working in the registration /business office area is a great experience for me. I am currently studing the new codes for ICD10 and learning more and more each day that will help myself and all of my patients that come thru. I am also a member of the National Patient Access group Mississippi Chapter. I hope to be able to take the test next year for CHAM. My work with Southwest Hospital is a Blessing and a Joy.
