Responsible for strategic development and implementation of unique non-profit solution to the “Valley of Death.” Led business development efforts. Established networks of researchers, foundations, pharma/biotech companies, and investors for collaborative funding and development of novel therapeutics. Performed scientific evaluations and created strategic development plans necessary to achieve IND, drive crisp go/no go decision-making, and create program value. Provided comprehensive project oversight and program management leadership.

Led many aspects of rebranding effort, including creation and establishment of new business strategy, company name, tag line, logo design, website content, marketing presentation materials and white papers. Headed business development efforts to identify new collaboration opportunities for Ansaris. Prepared and presented Ansaris capabilities information to targeted partner companies. Enhanced recognition of Ansaris research and drug design approach through presentation at scientific meetings and events. Led drug design team to create novel inhibitor for AMPK in collaboration with SRI.

Established strategy and drove execution of preclinical studies supporting development of novel therapeutic compounds for inflammatory pain, osteoarthritis, and oncology. Performed extensive research and consulted with scientific leaders to ensure strong scientific rationale for development of innovative, cutting-edge targets that added company value. Ensured excellent communication with external collaborators and contract research organizations to maximize scientific rigor and support development of new research opportunities. Led strategic activities to establish funding for new, internal pipeline targets.  Established preclinical POC strategy and wrote preclinical pharmacology package for p38 inhibitor IND Drove grant strategy as Principle Investigator on five grant applications, including drug design for two novel drug targets and development of novel computational tools. Through grant development, initiated business-modeling and strategic approach for creation of the Locus Virtual Collaboratory, an open-access web-based virtual homology model database and innovative contribution to ‘scientific commons’-based drug development. Managed biology personnel and research activities in support of drug design collaboration objectives with Ono and Novartis.

Directed strategy/execution of preclinical imaging activities to support oncology franchise goals (Target through Phase IIb) within newly-formed Merck matrix structure designed to improved collaboration between franchises (Oncology, Neuro, BRIE, etc.) and functional areas (Imaging, Molecular Profiling, Experimental Medicine). Achieved Six Sigma Green Belt.

Managed franchise-specific preclinical imaging staff (radiochemistry, biology and immunohistochemistry) of five (direct) and 35 (extended team). Maintained state-of-the-art knowledge of clinical/ technical/scientific imaging advances, identified novel imaging approaches, and evaluated potential applications to support oncology franchise.

Provided veterinary support and project planning for Bone Biology preclinical proof-of-concept experiments. Served as on-call veterinarian one week per month and as subject matter expert on bone, surgery, and protocol-related routine care issues. Supervised summer vet intern and project leading to poster presentation and publication.
