PAULA B. THOMAS is the Deloitte Foundation Professor of Accounting at Middle Tennessee State University, where she works with students to instill a love for understanding and exploring financial accounting. Her graduate classes analyze the business impact of financial decisions across a variety of industries. Paula served on the Board of Directors of MidSouth Bank, where she was a designated financial expert and audit committee chair. She holds both an earned doctorate in accounting and an active CPA license. Dr. Thomas served a three-year term on the American Institute of CPA's Board of Directors, and has recently been appointed to the AICPA Foundation Board of Trustees. She has published a number of articles in academic and professional journals. Paula frequently leads accounting and professional issues updates to professional and academic groups throughout the United States. She interacts with college students and young professionals on a daily basis, and can represent their perspectives in business and strategy discussions. Paula leverages her ongoing business experience to help bridge the gap between students and employers to ensure that graduates are career-ready. Her academic career follows her earlier experience in public accounting and internal audit in the banking sector.Paula's specialties include financial accounting and reporting, audit committees, finance, corporate governance, sustainability, cybersecurity, regulatory, education, human resources, and the financial services sector.
