Growing up many of my friends measured success by being able to "get out of our city." Upon graduating from VCU I repeatedly asked myself "How do I NOT go back and share all that I know now? Aren't I supposed to give back to the community that raised me?" And that's just what I did - I returned. I am thankful to have a decade of professional experience working with families, school systems, community resources, and the heart of every community - children! For as long as I can remember I have been passionate about children, education, and equity. From connecting families with community resources during my time with TAP Head Start, to providing guidance and support to students with mental health diagnoses during my time with Dominion Youth Services, and now educating students and families in heart health while raising life-saving funds as Development Director - School Engagement, I have a well-rounded understanding of barriers individuals and communities face, as well as the importance of leaning in on strengths and support systems of individuals and communities. I am motivated by helping children through my work. And as I have had the privilege of exploring social work at the Micro, Mezzo, and Macro levels I have come to learn that my interests and expertise lie somewhere between the Mezzo and Macro levels. I am proud of where I come from, proud to have come back, and even more proud to see all the positive changes that have taken place in my community throughout the last decade. Still, there is work to be done! I look forward to opportunities that allow me to continue being a change maker.
