Guided by the standards of nursing practices and facility policies and procedures, provide direct patient care for 15-20 nursing home residents. Provide education information and training to nursing assistants, ancillary staff, residents and family members on any subject related to patient care and needs. Oversees and supervise the care given by nursing assistants to residents. Physical assessments with documentation and initiation of care plan changes were completed. Receive and give oral reports about resident with sufficient information to implement appropriate follow-up action as needed. Respond to and take corrective action on safety hazards. Identify emergent, life-threatening situations through assessments and follow through with facility protocol. Document physical assessments, direct patient care, medication passes, treatments, behaviors, incident reports, actions taken and procedures followed. Promptly report changes in residents’ condition to physician, Director of Nursing and responsible party, and take necessary actions. Attend educational training and inservices. Assumed responsibility for the compliance of federal, state and local regulations. Work on admissions, transfers and discharging of residents. Listen to concerns of nursing staff, physicians, residents and family members and resolve issues or give information to the Nursing Supervisor. Count narcotics, check emergency kit and exchange keys with oncoming nurse. Order, receive and store medications. Observe infection control procedures and follow Residents’ Rights policies at all times.

Provided activities of daily living care to 15-20 residents, took vital signs, alerted nursing staff to changes in resident’s level of consciousness, behavior, mood and appearance.

This position required the management of money in excess of 1.7 million dollars; accounts receivable and payable, state and federal allocations, certificates of deposits, balancing checking accounts, paying federal as well as state taxes, payroll and check distribution. Successfully generated quarterly and annual budgeting reports.

Successfully sought and secured funding of more than 1 million dollars, through grant writing, for the only HIV in Pregnancy Clinic in southeastern Michigan. Managed study data for nearly 200 pregnant study patients. Held hundreds of pre and post-test HIV counseling sessions to pregnant women given the rapid HIV test presenting for delivery. Delivered direct patient care; took vitals, blood samples for studies, assisting the physicians with physical examinations and patient interviews.
