The League of Latino Educators (LLE) is a network of teachers and associate educators who develop solutions to improve the education outcomes of Latino students in Minnesota. LLE also works on policy and legislation that would increase recruitment and retention of teachers of color in our state. • Worked with a coalition of educators to increase teachers’ visibility at the legislature and to lobby for funding to recruit and retain qualified teachers of color in Minnesota• Liaised with Education Minnesota to transfer the League of Latinx Educators to the Education Minnesota’s Ethnic Minority Affairs Committee (EMAC)• Collaborated with Education Minnesota members from Native-American communities to assist them in formalizing an identity-based affinity group

The Parents for Excellence Academy brings teacher-led parent workshops to schools where parents are empowered to become education advocates for their children. The organization seeks to close the leadership and advocacy gap between parents of color and/or low socio-economic status and their middle class counterparts.• Inspired by the work of RISE Colorado, developed and launched a teacher-led parent leadership academy that works to train low income and diverse parents about the importance of parental involvement, student academic performance, attendance, school adjustment and engagement.• Developed a framework for year-round, culturally relevant parent engagement training that is led by teachers in order to increase parent leadership, engagement, and advocacy skills that transfer into students’ academic success.• Designed a professional development workshop for teachers and school faculty on culturally relevant practices to manage student behavior that reduce disciplinary referrals.• Managed all communication responsibilities to promote Academy’s programs.
