ThinkClarity, the consultancy I established in 2003, provides specialist expertise to navigate change and address challenges in complex situations. I moved into this specialist area in 2013 after 30 years of experience in analytic decision support and programmatic change management We work with organisations, community groups and government-funded programmes. Our innovative and proven approach, which has been used worldwide in 700+ projects since 2009, collects, maps and enables decision-makers to explore how people make sense of their everyday lived experiences.Data is presented visually in a way that identifies insights, many of them counterintuitive, which enable the design of a portfolio of small safe-to-fail initiatives. Implementing, monitoring and adapting these initiatives nudges and navigates change in a way that has been described as "crossing a river by feeling for the stones". Initiatives that are successful can be scaled-up without the disruption and risk often associated with large-scale top-down change programmes. These projects were intended to discover actionable insights in governance, legitimacy, service delivery, anti-corruption, ways of coping with drought and migration, social engagement and conflict resolution.
