Added value, strengthened capabilities and achieved organisational priorities to affiliate-led federation that serves 18.5 million workers from 147 countries. Initially joined ITF as Integrators Project Worker (2007 – 2009), progressing to Assistant Secretary to Dockers Section (2009 – 2014) and then Industrial Hubs Programme Leader (2014 – 2020).My PhD was a cornerstone for ITF’s step change in the mid-2000s in response to the growth of logistics TNCs and their role within global supply chains. Regular strategic reflection to drive impact resulted in three significant shifts in the ITF’s strategic direction: • Facilitated the ITF’s Global Delivery strategy development. Managed the resulting strategic plan’s development and implementation which required high levels of cross-organisational collaboration, matrix management, and internal and external stakeholder engagement. • Spearheaded the redesign of the ITF’s Ports of Convenience campaign to drive forward a more ambitious strategic programme with its Dockers affiliated unions to influence and raise labour standards in an increasingly privatised industrial sector. • Successfully influenced and moved a Dockers Section industrial hubs pilot project to ITF-wide priority programme status within 18 months, including establishing a working partnership with IndustriALL global union.

Consulting work was wide ranging and included: authoring several key publications and overseeing their production pipeline; preparing and producing large scale conferences; designing and delivering key training programmes for full-time union officers and organisers; coordinating development and recruitment centres for a range of TUC affiliated unions for senior national officer and organiser roles; and representing the TUC to a range of external stakeholders within the European trade union landscape.

Led successful negotiations with a range of employers on union recognition and collective bargaining. Developed and executed regional strategy to expand membership and to develop union representatives and effective workplace union representation. This included the introduction of volunteer development plans and systems to track and encourage regular training and development for union representatives across the region. Developed and implemented diversity and inclusion initiatives including a collaborative women's leadership programme with two other regions. This resulted in a dramatic D&I improvement in representation at workplace and regional committee levels and in delegation compositions. Led regional organising team. Appointed, mentored, coached and delivered training for organisers within the national department. Trainer and coach for TUC Organising Academy. Seconded to TUC to provide expert input into two international union transformation projects in Eastern Europe.
