I called on area Realtors in the Lyndonville VT area and was offered a manager position 5 minutes from home and took up that opportunity with Universal Mortgage Corporation.

I worked from home as a mortgage officer covering the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and northern New Hampshire. I had previously worked for the company acquired by National City Mortgage.

I was an on the road mortgage originator working out of the St Johnsbury office. I spent one day a week in Northern NH soliciting loans. I set up the bank to be approved for VA loans and FHA loans and was the leading producer of secondary market loans for the entire time I was with the bank.

This is where I was given the nickname "Mister VA". I covered the Plattsburgh NY area for the company, developing it from scratch along with the Lake Placid/Saranac Lake & Malone areas. I was the office's top producer in numbers of FHA & VA loans. Later, I developed the Orleans County area from scratch by calling on area Realtors.

This was my very first commission only position and I solicited mortgage loans from various real estate offices in Plattsburgh, New York, and later the Lake Placid/Saranac Lake area. The company no longer exists.

I held various positions including some with lending authority at Franklin Lamoille Bank in St Albans. Through various mergers and acquisitions the bank is now a branch of TD Banknorth. I did my very first mortgage loan at this bank in 1981.
