I am a serial startup CTO and full-stack architect/engineer with over 20 years of software engineering experience, having played a variety of roles from developer to executive in organizations from startups to Fortune 100 companies. Most of my career has involved building web applications in one technology or another, as well as enterprise-scale distributed back-end systems, one of which landed me Oracle Magazine's Architect of the Year award in 2008.My go-to technology stack at this point is serverless full-stack Javascript deployed on AWS, although I've used many other technology stacks over the years. Earlier in my career I spent a decade in the Java ecosystem eventually finding increased productivity with Groovy and Grails. I have also worked with Ruby, Python, and PHP, and have used front-end frameworks including React, Angular, and JQuery. On the back-end, I've designed and managed Postgres, MySQL, Oracle, Mongo, Redis, and DynamoDB data stores, and have used message queuing solutions including AWS SQS/SNS, RabbitMQ and JMS. In one of my more recent startup CTO roles I had the opportunity to delve into natural language processing and machine learning.Aside from engineering, I have built and managed teams both large (50+) and small, negotiated multi-million dollar vendor contracts, and managed ongoing vendor relationships with service providers both on and off-shore. As a serial founding CEO (Rippl.me, Jointli.com), and having played founding roles in three other startups, I have developed a considerable business acumen outside of technology. I have directly participated in sales and marketing strategy and execution, organizational design, and business model development with a strong penchant for the Lean Startup methodology. I have also worked as a professional graphic designer, and have designed online user experiences, logos, and marketing collateral.In short, I thrive on taking a business concept and making it a reality.
