2019-to date: Impact Investing Institute- The Institute wants to accelerate the growth and improve the effectiveness of the impact investing market in the UK and internationally. Impact investments are investments made with an explicit intention to generate positive, measurable social and environmental impact alongside a financial return.- I am a member of the Advisory Council2017-2019 Task Force for Creating a Culture of Social Impact Investment and Savings Steering Group: - The Task Force was merged into the Impact Investing Institute on 2019- It was charged with bringing the recommendations from 'Growing a Culture of Social Impact Investing in the UK' to life. In December 2016, the UK government set up an independent Advisory Group chaired by Elizabeth Corley (Vice Chair of Allianz Global Investors) to answer an important question: "How can the providers of savings, pensions and investments engage with individuals to enable them to support more easily the things they care about through their savings and investment choices?- I was on the Steering Group of the Task Force and co chair the better reporting work stream with Olivia Dickson

The coalition is promoting communication about value creation as the next step in the evolution of corporate reporting. The IIRC’s vision is to align capital allocation and corporate behaviour to wider goals of financial stability and sustainable development through the cycle of integrated reporting and thinking.I created the organization, built a global team and executed a successful five year strategy. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- Creation of the Integrated Reporting Framework, raising global awareness, and initiating the breakthrough phase of adoption with some 1,500 companies, such as Tata, GEC, Itau Unibanco and Nestle- Creation of a global network of contacts from regulators, companies, academics, investors, academics to the sustainability community and the accounting profession - Membership of the B20 (the business network of the G20 intergovernmental process) Task Force on SME Development, representing the IIRC at G20 and B20 Summits- Initiated and maintained funding for the organization- The IIRC is now well known for the coalition I created and grew, providing a network of force multipliers (leverage of partners) across the globe in major capital markets - I have built a reputation as a high profile international keynote speaker on business, capital market and corporate reporting issues

FEE is an international non-profit organization based in Brussels representing 50 Institutes of professional accountants and auditors from 37 European countries, including all of the 28 EU Member States. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- Designed and then implemented a change of messaging and profile after being asked by then FEE President to review the positioning and work associated with sustainability- Key messages and a much stronger profile in interacting with the European Commission and members of the European Parliament were a key part of my achievements- Ensured that sustainability was a fundamental business and accounting issue embedded in the work streams of FEE and is now evident internally within the organization

Established by HRH The Prince of Wales, A4S convenes senior leaders from across the finance world – in business, the capital markets, governments, regulators and education – to inspire action to drive a fundamental shift towards resilient business models and a sustainable economy.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- Initially asked to join, pro bono, by the Prince of Wales and his then Private Secretary, Sir Michael Peat, for His Royal Highness's fledgling Accounting for Sustainability (A4S) project. I was subsequently asked to become the volunteer Executive Chairman of A4S and this resulted in the creation of the International Integrated Reporting Council in 2011, as detailed in the section on reporting and accounting above. - During my tenure examples of what we developed include the Connected Reporting Framework, the first Global Accounting Bodies Network on sustainability, and a great deal of material and promotion of how to embed sustainability into business practice.

A software house / services and consulting business providing a range of proven and entirely British-built software, designed to bring new speed and simplicity to all business processes. KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- Joined the company when it was run and under the complete control of its founder. I helped create a structure and governance regime, acted as the confidential advisor to the owner and was deeply involved in building a strategic direction- Instrumental in a change of thinking leading to a gradual but purposeful capital value generation methodology including a series of acquisitions- The company progressed from a modest valuation to being sold for a substantial sum, at which time I exited along with the owner

As one of the largest business support organizations in Europe, the vision was for government and small businesses to work together to make London the best place for entrepreneurs to excel. This was a UK Government appointment.- A major personal achievement was to chair the steering group of a major IT project during 2005/6, which delivered successfully and on time

The Financial Reporting Council promotes high quality corporate governance and reporting to foster investment through the UK Corporate Governance Code and encourages engagement between investors and boards through the Stewardship Code. It sets standards for corporate reporting, audit and actuarial practice, and monitors and enforces accounting and auditing standards. It also oversees the regulatory activities of the actuarial profession and the professional accountancy bodies and operates independent enforcement arrangements for public interest cases involving accountants and actuaries.KEY ACHIEVEMENT- I helped lead in the reorganization and creation of the FRC in the post-Enron scenario, and then its consolidation as a coordinated regulator - the first of its kind in the world. This revised remit and operating model is now regarded as a beacon of best practice globally.

This grouping of the UK accounting professional bodies provides a forum for them to work together collectively in the public interest on matters affecting the profession and the wider economy.

KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- As President, I helped professionalize the organization by creating the CEO role. I thereby changed the role of President from being a quasi-CEO to being a Chairman in a group of Office Holders for a three year term. This delivered a step-change in the organization’s capability and consistency of leadership- Worked with the new CEO to develop a new strategy and set of strategic themes to evolve the accounting body to be fit-for-purpose as the changing demands on the profession evolved on a global scale- Drove the development of a new suite of continuing professional development courses for members that were fit-for-purpose in the new professional environment of the 21st century- During the period leading up this and during my tenure as an office holder, I promoted sustainability as a major priority - this was the first time the organization seriously engaged with sustainability issues. For example, I founded and chaired the Corporate Responsibility Advisory Group; I obtained the support of several high profile individuals, including Sir Mark Moody-Stuart (Chairman of Anglo American) and Sir Ian McIntyre (Chairman of Network Rail)- I was initially the Chairman of the IT Faculty from 1999, as well as a member the Council before becoming an office holder. I was the IT Advisor to the internal team for the early part of my involvement and oversaw successful multi-million pound project implementations.- Served on various UK Government panels including the National Forum for Startups and the DTI Stakeholder Panel on Better Regulation. I regularly represented the ICAEW at many national bodies and forums, including the Treasury, the DTI, the City of London Corporation

This software house produced applications specifically directed at auditors in order for them to evidence and carry out audit procedures for the UK regulatory system.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- Acted in the capacity of a non-executive director after helping start the software and organization.- During this period the software became the leading application for audit preparation and process in the UK.- The company was successfully acquired into the Wolters Kluwer Group, at which time I exited; the key partner remained with them until very recently.

I founded and ran this accounting software reseller, application developer and integrator with transatlantic clients and implementations.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS Retained ownership until its sale to Aston Group in late 1999 in a multi-million pound deal Company became the largest reseller of Navision Software (now part of MS Dynamics) in the UK Following the sale I became CEO, Aston Group UK. As well as running the UK operation this entailed being responsible for the search and acquisition of other UK companies for Aston Group, as well as being a member of the International Executive Board

This was a software house focused on providing applications for accounting firms based primarily in the South-east of the UK.KEY ACHIEVEMENTS- My own company, which I founded, was sold to this software house after only 18 months, after which I lead the sales and marketing effort as a shareholder and Board member - The software became the UK’s leading accounting practice application suite of the 1980’s - Turnover increased 10-fold from time of joining to the time the company was sold to a major competitor for an eight figure sum.
