As an Advanced Care Paramedic, Paul was aware that the job would require him to provide a supportive and calming voice to people and their families during one of the most vulnerable and stressful moments in their lives. With an extensive background in trauma counselling, Paul was not only prepared, but also highly skilled to meet this challenge. What Paul was unprepared for was the extent mental health impacted how he did his job on a daily basis, with mental health being behind call out after call out. This sent Paul on a journey of discovery, one where he was shocked to learn that 1 in 2 Australians will be impacted by mental health issues, with such an epidemic seeing Paul scaling back his work as a paramedic to get in front of as many people as possible to raise awareness of such an important issue.Speaking around the country, from urban offices, regional community centres, to the mines up north and out west, Paul’s message of how we need to not only change our own lives, but begin to look out for each other has inspired audiences across the nation.Whether at home or work, Paul believes that we need to address our behaviours in a way that is not only life changing, but lifesaving, moving away from yesterday methods and focusing on real solutions that work.
