Updated and managed all accounting functions and financial reporting.

Key member of management team brought in to turn around failing operation. Used Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement to improve operations and financial functions. Brought plant from worst to first in operational metrics in two years. Improved budgeting process and monthly accounting and reporting of P&L and balance sheet. Provided rolling twelve month forecast of P&L. Recruited, developed and cross trained relatively inexperienced staff to operate independently. Improved physical inventory process, inventory accuracy and reduced finished goods inventory levels. Worked to overcome resistence to SOX compliance enabling operation to meet corporate expectations.

Relocated to the small, socially closed community of Brenham to be the Controller of the Sealy plant. Quickly assimilated with management, staff and community to build their trust and respect. Improved office efficiency and cross trained staff which allowed the reduction of two employees through attrition. Part of corporate team to write and implement SOX policies company wide. Worked with operations to implement Continuous Improvement. Hired and trained perpetual inventory coordinator that led to improvements in inventory accuracy.

Took over financial responsibilities of a branch that was in a state of declining sales, profitability and internal controls. Developed staff and worked closely with internal auditors to re-establish controls and checks and balances. Partnered with operations to reduce and illiminate costs enabling the branch to maintain acceptable profitability ratio. Improved accuracy of standard costs. Reconcilled balance sheet accounts, writing off assets that could not be supported or identified.

Responsible for financial reporting for ten factory outlet stores and 12-14 annual warehouse sales. Part of implementation team to convert company to SAP software. Worked with IT to design and implement PC based point of sale system that updated SAP daily.

Accepted challenge to turn around the Fixed Assets department which was a year behind in establishing fixed assets records. Recruited, trained and developed clerk to improve departmental efficiency allowing the reduction of one person through attrition. Posted monthly depreciation for the corporation. Supplied monthly depreciation forecast and annual depreciation budgets for entire corporation. Tracked and reported monthly capital and expense project expenditures. Reconciled fixed asset system to G/L providing a monthly roll forward.

Established tracking system for forklift maintenance costs enabling a 25% reduction in the quantity of the fleet and 35% reduction in maintenance costs. Part of team to design and implement AS/400 based radio frequency inventory tracking system which led to the elimination of quarterly physical inventories. Maintained and managed system hardware. Responsible to maximize warehouse space through improved floor layouts. Project manager for capital and expense projects of value up to $2M.
