As Head of Complex Underwriting at NIG, I was a key member of the NIG Executive Team that drove strong, profitable growth of the business. I oversaw technical aspects of all commercial complex products, including underwriting business plans, risk appetite, system rules, product development and portfolio management, plus regulatory compliance, audit and governance control. We built trusted relationships with clients, and evolved into new areas, trading models and products that increased our market offering. In addition, I led strategic initiatives that reduced risk and improved solvency position, and large technology projects and organisational restructure projects that enhanced efficiency and employee engagement. As a core member of the executive team, I was actively involved in the sale of NIG to RSA in 2024.

I was head of two distinct functions for Direct Line Group. This included Underwriting Strategy, newly formed to provide thought leadership, strategy development and opportunity identification for all DLG brands. This included driving forward fundamental developments in Underwriting risk appetite, from risk assessment models to cater for autonomous vehicles and connected homes to incorporation of new technology factors to enable partnership opportunities. As head of Underwriting Control, I oversaw underwriting integrity and governance, rolling out new frameworks and processes that maximised opportunities and mitigated against threats from market, industry, legal and regulatory developments. I managed DLG policy words across all propositions and products, and headed all legal and regulatory change, including GDPR and Brexit.

I was a key member of Chubb Personal Lines Leadership team for the UK and Ireland business, overseeing more than 40 underwriters as the business established a strong growth trajectory. I led initiatives that transformed broker service models and empowered the underwriters to grow quality and volume of their books. In addition, I instituted strong corporate governance and controls in terms of P&L management, audit and oversight.

I was head of RSA’s Mid & High Net Worth business with full P&L accountability, driving 150% organic growth in three years and leading the acquisition of a £30M book of business. We returned profitability to a strong COR during this period, whilst enhancing broker experience with the launch of automated quote / sale solutions and new pricing tools.
