Reporting to the Secretary General, I am the point of contact for overall operations and finances at the GEM Secretariat. My day to day activities include:• coordinating the Software & IT and Support teams;• maintaining the GEM budget and cash-flow, liaison with financial advisors and Board of Auditors;• writing and revising contracts, GEM statute, licensing and MoUs in collaboration with legal advisors;• end-to-end project management from design and proposal writing, through implementation to delivery and closure;• providing advice and input to the Secretary General and GEM management team;• participation and representation in collaborative projects, conferences and meetings;• developing and delivering presentations; • database development, software development, testing, troubleshooting• use of GIS tools to produce interactive maps from geospatial data• assisting scientific teams with the development, test and deployment of risk models

Reporting to the Secretary General and member of the Executive Committee my responsibilities included:• planning and coordination of the internal software development activities• assisting colleagues with coordination of IT and software aspects of external projects• liaison with sponsors and partners for IT and software deployment • managing a small team of developers• selecting candidates for software development positions.• procurement of IT infrastructure equipment and services

Software Development for various Ad-Serving components: ad selection, log processor, SOAP interfaces

Reporting to the CTO I was responsible for the the development of the Scatter Media Objects for Java (SMOJ) toolkit, from its conception to ongoing development and maintenance. SMOJ was the Graphical User Interface and application software for the BLOBbox, a set-top box digital TV decoder, PVR and media-player. My duties included:• developing the SMOJ toolkit and applications for the TVBLOB BLOBBox, http://web.archive.org/web/20110910202857/http://www.blobbox.tv/• managing a small team of developers in Milan and Catania (Sicily);• liaison with management and team leaders to coordinate integration and release;• developing internationalization toolkit for use by translators in various countries;• selecting candidates for software development positions.

* Development of software for the modelling, generation, and validation of DSP systems and of meta-models and generation tools.* Implementation and maintenance of tools for automated compilation, validation, and test of software to support the development team.* Development of software for the manipulation of audio signals.* Installation, maintenance and administration of Linux servers and a small cluster for scientific computation.* Assisting colleagues during proposal preparation, and in the use of the Linux cluster.

Design and implementation of prototype applications for use with an in-car telematics systems.Integration of Fantastic reception software with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Jigsaw web server.Reviewing code produced by contractors in outsourced projects.Advising colleagues regarding API design, and the use of Linux/GNU development tools.The "Push Cache" code added to Jigsaw in order to facilitate its integration with Fantastic software was submitted back to the W3C, and is available as part of the current Jigsaw release: see http://www.w3.org/Jigsaw/Team.html for details.I was also responsible for the management of Fantastic's patents and related intellectual property rights. This involved:* liaison with patent attorneys and legal advisors;* advising project leaders, management and colleagues;* helping colleagues produce patent applications, and following their progress through the patent system.

"Grant Holder" with the Reliable Information Technologies unit (RIT), based at the European Commission Joint Research Centre in Ispra, Italy. My work was concentrated primarily on the Generic Information Server Toolkit (GIST), a C++ class library and related applications facilitating the development of dynamic, interactive information systems on the world wide web. In particular my day-to-day activities included: * design, implementation and maintenance of the software; * development and maintenance of interactive web-based services;* documentation, training, consultancy and support for customers and colleagues; * administration of a number of Linux PCs and UNIX workstations. Continuing development of the EWSE, a web-based information system for the remote sensing community and maintenance ofthe IMS gateway.
