Mainly working on networks with Mutli Service Switches PPX (ex Nortel MSS, MPLS, IP, Ethernet VLANs, ATM, Frame Relay) . Work consists of engineering, implementation, configuration and troubleshooting in customer 'live' networks, Customer lab networks and Verification Office trials. Also work on and have knowledge of installation and configuration of Oracle (Sun) Solaris (UNIX) workstations with Network Management systems and Carrier Ethernet equipment (SNMP) .

Mainly working on networks with Carrier Ethernet (VLAN tagging, PBB, PBT, 1G 10G) and Mutli Service Switches PPX (ex Nortel MSS) . Work consists of engineering, implementation, configuration and troublehooting in customer 'live' networks, Customer lab networks and Verification Office trials. Also have experience with and knowledge of installation and configuration of UNIX workstations with Network Management systems such as MDM and MEM for MSS and Carrier Ethernet equipment .

Initially support as SNA (IBMs Systems Network Architecture) expert customers such as KPN and AKZO by transporting SNA traffic over Nortel Packet-Switched networks based on DPN-100 equipment fabricated by the employer. The SNA protocol is emulated at the edge of the DPN-100 network. In the KPN Datanet-1 network later called NATVAN (National Value Added Network) customers like AH (Albert Heijn) and V&D used this solution. The Packet Switched Datanet-1 of KPN is based on the DPN-100 equipment of Northen Telecom (later Nortel Networks). Designed (Essent), build (KPN HSFR34) and supported networks based on Nortel's Passport Multiservice Switches.Soms of the supported customers: Essent, KPN (networks: NATVAN, HSFR34 en LBNS), Telia, Sonera and Tele2).Participated in a standby roster.For several years worked one day a a week onsite at KPN, mainly at the operational network managment department of the NATVAN (Datanet-1) network.Have been Customer Prime for KPN and Telia. Attended meetings of Unisource as technical representative of Nortel.In the KPN lab at Den Haag tested netwerk upgrades, new features, products and new applications to be deployed in the networks of KPN.Problem handling using Clarify Clearcase problem management system.Experience with protocols: ATM, FrameRelay, Ethernet, IP, X.25, X.75.Planned merging of two packet switched networks into one bigger network.

Volmac AC, later CAP Volmac as part of the Cap Gemini group, provided mwe with work fat their customer the NMB-Postbank group, later ING after the merge with the insurance company Nationale Netherlanden . Work included activation of changes in the IBM SNA networks of the NMB-Postbank group. Monitor and excute problem solving activities on these networks. Write scripts in REXX, using Netview interfaces, to simplify the monitoring of the hundreds of dial-in connections used for the Girotel Videotex online banking application. Helped planning for and executed the actul nightly activities to gradually move the main datacommunications room to another one.Redefined and implemented new SNA Routing between multiple IBM MVS/ESA hosts for (the preparatiuon of) this move. Participated in a standby roster.

Worked for Volmac as IBM System and Network engineer for ADP. Work included implementation of an interactive system for generating dynamic JCL for IBM VMS systems using TSO (IBMs TimeSharing Option) and REXX (programming language) together with ISPF (Interactive System Productivity Facility) panels. Created and implemented a naming convention for the VTAM (Virtual Telecommunications Access Method) on the IBM MVS/ESA mainframe , the NCP (Network Control Program) and NPSI (Network PacketSwitching Interface) definitions for the FEP (Front End Processor). Designed and implemented an SNI (SNA Interconnect) coupling between the SNA networks of ADP and KLM for file transfers. Defined the functionality of an VTAM SME (Session Management Exit) to be written in assembler.

Detached by Volmac as network- and systems programmer for IBM SNA (Systems Network Architecture) based networks at the Postbank (later NMB-Postbank group). Also maintained IBM MVS (Multiple Virtual Stoarages) systemsoftware for IBM mainframes of the Postbank. The work includes problem solution, initiation and implementation of changes in configurations and installation and testing of new hardware and new software (versions). Maintain all changes and implementations of configurations of all FEPs (Front End Processors) of the Postbank. Also worked on renewal of the SNA networks of the Postbank and realised couplings with an X.25 network (Datanet 1 of the PTT/KPN) using the NPSI (Network Packet Switching Interface) software configuration as extion to the NCP (Network Control Program) software configuration of the FEP . Due to the importance of the conutinity of the Postbank operations, redundancy measures and calamity plans are a continuesly taken into account. Paul helps with the implementation and execution of the calamity plans and routes to enable to execute the operations form a fallback location. Also developed and implementd SNI (SNA Interconnect) couplings between the SNA network of the Postbank and the NMB (Nederlandse Middenstands Bank). Participated in a standby roster.

Worked on as "vraagbaak" (source of information) for Volmac collegues and on the Service Desk to assist customers who bought software packages distributed by Volmac, such as the fourth generation language Natural with the relational database Adabas of Software AG and the Videotex package PIII used for generating Videotex pages (alike the current Teletex broadcast pages, but with data entry possibilities). The PIII package allowed, interfacing with COBOL creation of dynamic pages and user data input. Work included searchin for intomation, or persons who could/did have relevant information. Reproduction of problems and finding work-arounds or solutions. Contact with product suppliers for product bugs, problems and questions.

Started a Cobol Programmer and became a Senior Programmer. Worked mainly for insurance companies. Mostly wrote COBOL programs, several including CICS , mainly on IBM mainframes. Amongst these programs are programs for premium calculations ojn different forms (tarifs) of individual Life Insurance and a complex mutation program for individual Life Insurance. Wrote some technical specifications for other Cobol programmers. Assisted in OS conversion projects for Cobol programs, such as ICL- George3 to IBM - MVS and for Cobol CICS programs from IBM MVS to IBM DOS/VSE. Also contributed to theprogramming of the VVIS system (Verkeers Volg en Informatie systeem) of Rijkswaterstaat that allows following the traffic of ships and their sometimes hazardous cargo over the waterways.
