The Rugby Football League Transition Mentor Programme is there to assist players adapting to life after playing competitively. The programme provides athletes approaching the end of their sporting careers as well as past players, with career consultancy, personal and professional development, mentoring and job placement via strategic alliances with key partners across many industries throughout the UK and beyond.Many retiring athletes have formal qualifications and a variety of transferable skills and knowledge gained through their experiences within professional sport. However, many struggle to manage the transition into the workforce due to a lack of knowledge, confidence, sound advice and an understanding of what is required to be successful outside of the world of sport. The Rugby Football League Transitioning programme has a detailed understanding of what it takes for athletes to be ready to enter the workforce and has established relationships with businesses across a wide variety of industries that recognise the qualities, attributes and values that many ex-players can bring to their organisations.My areas of expertise:Education throughout the squad including workshops and inspirational talks. Regular meetings with the RFL around initiatives and upcoming events. Creating and nurturing an environment towards younger players. Help with eventual transition of the older players. My Role at the Salford Red Devils is Duel role split between being the Football Manager and the Player Welfare Manager.. Work closely with multi organisations including Local Authorities, Stadium Companies, fellow professional clubs, Governing bodies and Key Stakeholders. Implementation of goal and target setting short, medium and long term for all Playing staff . Produce documents for presentation to the Board of Directors when needed outlining results, workshops and seminars undertaken that month . Work closely with the playing staff to ensure that should their careers fall short or result in retirement from the game that we as a club have done everything possible to ensure that they leave us well educated, well informed and ready for the next chapter of their lives..Work along side the charitable arm of the club the Salford Red Devils Foundation in the delivery of community initiatives to both enhance the clubs reputation and the Wellbieng of the local community.. Implementation of educational and welfare programme and workshops to best inform the staff of the off field issues such as : Addiction awareness Gambling Alcohol Social / prescription drug misuse Sexual Health. Create Strong links with local businesses to allow the Players to engage should in hands on work experience to help enhance their Experience and knowledge of their chosen occupation when retirement eventually arrives

My Professional Playing Career begain with the Halifax Blue Sox in 1993 where i spent 3 years before a mid season transfare to the Salford City Reds in the march of 1996. I spent 11 years with the Reds and during that time was fortunate to have represented Great Britain Academy on tours of the South Pacific and France as well as representing Wales in the 2000 world cup and European Cups. At the end of my 10th year with Salford i was awarded a Testimonial year for my years of service with the club. After a short spell away from the club i have now returned as football manager and player welfare manager.

1st Team Squad MemberHalifax Rugby League Club was formed way back in 1873. It was a Rugby Union club in those days, as all rugby clubs were before the birth of Rugby League in 1895, and was very successful in that code. After becoming the first ever winners of the Yorkshire Cup in 1878, Halifax went on to win it on four further occasions. Several players were supplied for the Yorkshire County side in these years, and five were picked for the full England Rugby Union team.The club moved into their previous home of Thrum Hall in 1886, their home for the next 112 years until the move in 1998 to the re-developed 'Shay Stadium' to ground-share with local footballing neighbours, Halifax Town AFC.Halifax were founder members of the Rugby League (then known as the Northern Union) in 1895. In season 1902-03 they achieved the 'double' by winning the Challenge Cup and finishing top of Division One.
