About Pauline Vidal

Pauline Vidal is the Research Facilitator of the Refugee-Led Research Hub (RLRH) at the Oxford's Refugee Studies Center in East Africa. At RSC EA, she provides training and mentorship in all aspects of the research process, and supports the implementation of a study on Refugee-Led Organisations in East Africa (RLOs). Prior to joining RSC EA, she was the Research Manager of the Independent Monitoring, Research and Evidence Facility (IMREF), where she led six studies exploring protection-related challenges faced by transit migrants on the Central Mediterranean Route. She has conducted fieldwork with people affected by migration and displacement in Ethiopia, Kenya, Senegal, Mali, Niger, Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, and Mauritania. She is a graduate of the double master’s program in International Affairs between SciencesPo Paris and the London School of Economics.Pauline is also an emerging documentary filmmaker. As a filmmaker, her creative practice explores local politics, intimacies and South-North encounters. She co-directed the short film DOUR M3A L'ROND POINT in 2021, about the politics of roundabout design in the Kram neighbourhood of Tunis. Her latest short documentary THE RELEASE (2023), co-directed with Myriam Amri, tells the story of Malek, a young Tunisian writer, as her first novel is about to be published in France.

    IMREF is the Independent Monitoring, Rapid Research and Evidence Facility of the SSS Phase II programme commissioned by the Department for International Development (DFID). It is delivered by a consortium led by Integrity Global, which includes Seefar, IMPACT Initiatives, and the Danube University Krems. As part of IMREF, I led six research studies on the protection of migrants in the Sahel region, and coordinated more than 250 qualitative interviews with transit and return migrants in Agadez, Niger, Gao, Mali and Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Topics included: challenges accessing transit migrants, the impact of COVID-19 on migrants’ vulnerabilities, dynamics between local communities and transit migrants, and migrants' trust in humanitarian organisations.
