About Paul Malherbe

I am a microeconomist specializing in intellectual property and economic issues relating to the biopharmaceuticals industry. My focus is on improving access to medicines in developing countries, particularly South Africa, where I am currently working pro bono with the South African Cancer Alliance. I bring to this work more than 14 years of economic consulting experience, 14 years of economic Ph.D. coursework, research, and undergraduate teaching, and long engagement with political and economic issues facing South Africa. I also have a continuing interest in the proper assessment of patent damages and its relation to IP policy questions.
