Kiwa is an independent testing, certification, training and consultancy company with expertise in the energy sector.My role at Kiwa is to lead the energy consultancy team to help private companies, government departments in the UK and overseas, and professional bodies to apply rigorous chemical engineering knowledge to develop clean, sustainable, and safe energy systems. I have a particular focus on hydrogen as an energy carrier, and how through appropriate designs and procedures it has the potential to decarbonise applications that are currently served by the combustion of fossil fuels.

Lucite International is a global leader in the design, development and manufacture of acrylic-based products. Cassel is one of the largest Methyl Methacrylate producing sites in the world.I was responsible for the technical performance and process safety of an ammonium sulphate and two hydrogen cyanide production plants.

Johnson Matthey Catalysts produces catalysts for ammonia, methanol, oil and gas applications.I worked on synthesis gas revamp projects, from feasibility studies through to development of front end engineering packages. I developed quotations for supply of catalysts to customers, and provided both remote and on-site support for process technology and catalysts supplied by Johnson Matthey.Between July 2006 and November 2008 I worked on a project to install a new demonstration scale reforming train on a third party owned methanol plant in Trinidad for evaluation of new process technology. I wrote the plant operating manuals, trained operators and worked through the full process engineering life cycle from detailed design to commissioning.

The Elementis site at Eaglescliffe produced a wide variety of chromium products.I analysed out-of-specification products for common causes and developed a troubleshooting guide for operators to improve performance. I proposed a system to automate batch transfers and reduce the operator requirements.

Invista Wilton was one of the world's largest nylon intermediates manufacturing sites.I was a plant support process engineer, working on dynamic modelling, control system optimisation, environmental performance auditing and plant improvements using the six-sigma methodology.

I developed a full plant dynamic model that was connected to the DCS system to allow operator training. I wrote operating instructions for a new section of plant and participated in safety audits and studies.
