Paul Meerts is a Member of the Steering Committee of the Processes of International Negotiation (PIN) Program, the Program on Internationa Negotiation Training (POINT) and of the Advisory Board of the Journal of International Negotiation (JIN). As co-founder of Clingendael Institute he has been Director of the Department of Training and Education (1983-1989), Deputy General-Director of the Institute (2000-2006) and Advisor to its Director (2006-2011). Before Clingendael worked as an academic at the universities of Groningen (1974) and Leiden (1974-1978) and at the Netherlands Society of International Affairs (NGIZ) in The Hague (1978-1982). Current Projects:Training of diplomats, civil servants, military officers and university students in theory and practice of international negotiation processes (since 1989). Research (since 1999) on topics like negotiation processes in the European Union, the evolution of diplomatic negotiation, the synergy between warfare and negotiation, the impact of limitations on international negotiation processes and the role of ego in negotiation (egotiation). Designing simulation games (since 1958). Participating in international conferences on diplomatic negotiation and mediation.
