About Paul Papageorge
I was fortunate to work under Steve Jobs in my second tour of duty at Apple. I returned to Apple following 3 years living in London expanding CKS Group throughout Europe and 2 years as VP of Marketing taking VA Linux public. Upon my return, my first Senior Director of Marketing role was in Apple’s historically strong K-12 education market whose reputation and sales were declining. I launched the award-winning "X for Teachers" Program that was credited with turning around Apple’s standing in education. Moving over to run Apple’s Developer Marketing organization, I rebranded and relaunched the Mac Developer Program and was entrusted to champion all aspects of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference. My contribution played a part in vastly improving the brand promise for the conference and the entire week-long developer experience. In conjunction with the launch of iPhone, I developed, launched, and managed Apple’s iPhone Developer Program, as the founding Director of Marketing. Since launching, this program has set the bar for developer evangelism in its design, user experience, and depth of technical content and tools. My team played a key role in improving and scaling this program to keep up with its meteoric growth and streamlined the process for developers to send apps to the App Store. After leaving Apple, I helped some cool startups to build my marketing and brand consulting practice. In 2019 I joined PayPal. I'm genuinely excited to team up a talented and creative group of people at PayPal to transform FinTech and democratize financial services.
Listed skills include Multi Channel Marketing, Demand Generation, Product Marketing, Strategy, and 17 others.

Director, Global Partner Marketing
CurrentBrand Advisor & Marketing Consultant
I enjoy helping start ups get to the next level by infusing Apple quality marketing, branding, and thinking. I also enjoy helping people work better together. While I provide years of experience in building a strong brand, I also help business leaders better understand how to align their entire organization and leadership team to the purpose behind the brand. I believe the strongest brand is the one most connected to its purpose. A few of my clients are listed below:Zepp Labs, where I served as advisor to the CEO and acting Senior Vice President of Marketing to help forge the sports wearable category with its multi-sport sensor and training platform providing real-time analytics for baseball, softball, golf, and tennis. Led a complete rebrand, built a marketing team, and installed a direct sales approach which resulted in doubling Zepp's online store sales and resulted in securing another round of funding. As advisor to the CEO at Level Studios, I managed inter-agency identity within the greater Publicis worldwide network. Crafted the unique brand for Level Studios within the worldwide portfolio of companies and led brand discussions in client meetings and new business meetings. For MapBox, I helped articulate a simple yet powerful brand message and strategy. In addition to brand strategy, I architected a go-to-market plan for the MapBox developer program.
Sr. Director, Developer Marketing
•Developed, launched, and managed Apple’s iPhone Developer Program which raised the bar for all developer programs for its design, user experience, and depth of technical content. •Defined the iPhone Developer Program’s brand and value proposition....The fastest path from code to customer. •Held P&L responsibility for the Developer Programs and organized the staff into core teams including Marketing, System engineering, Product Marketing, Operations, and Support. •Continually improved the systems of the iPhone Developer Program to scale to the skyrocketing demand of millions of developers. •Instituted and institutionalized an improvement model by aligning teams for explicit responsibility of the revision and release cycle process. •Led all aspects of Apple’s Worldwide Developer Conference from 2004 through 2010. •Relaunched the Mac Developer Program by seamlessly integrating systems, features, and overall brand with the iPhone Developer Program. •Improved the developer customer support experience and reduced cost by shifting the existing outsourced support model to in-house AppleCare staff. •Prior to iPhone, revitalized the Mac Developer Program by launching the Tiger Early Start Kit.
Sr. Director, Education Marketing
In 2002, I was recruited to rejoin Apple to help lead a turn-around effort in the Education market. Apple’s share of computers in K-12 had plummeted to 13% and fallen behind both Dell and HP. At the time I joined, there was grave concern that Apple would continue losing share because schools were not upgrading to Mac OS X. The first area of focus was to get schools to upgrade to Mac OS X, so they could realize the benefits of Apple’s software innovation and continue investing in Macs. I led a two-pronged strategy that addressed both the teachers and the administrators. First, we launched "X for Teachers", a program that made Mac OS X and iLife applications (iMovie, etc) free to every teacher in America. More than 500K teachers participated and became advocates within their districts. Next, we launched the District License Program that provided administrators an easy, low-cost, way to upgrade all of their Macs to the latest software on an ongoing basis. This effectively stopped the bleeding and allowed us to focus on growth. With a firm foundation, I led Apple’s 1 to 1 computing initiative, which put an Apple laptop into the hands of every student within a learning environment. This was a multi-faceted program that required Apple to re-tool it's technology, messaging, sales, and servicing. And over the course of the next few years, I helped Apple achieve alignment internally and to the market to create a wave of adoption in classrooms, school sites, districts, and even entire states (Maine). As a result, Apple steadily gained market share each year, until we reclaimed the #1 spot in laptop sales to U.S. K-12 in 2007.
