I'm an award-winning editor, writer, and producer who knows how to shape complicated reporting into entertaining narratives. I understand how storytelling can be harnessed to make people care about important issues. I know the value of asking the right question. I know how to get creative people to produce their best work, and I've worked with some of the greatest story tellers out there: Chip Brown, Michael Pollan, Calvin Trillin, Susan Orlean, Cynthia Gorney, Mike Finkel, Robert Draper, Mary Roach, Richard Rodriguez, Chuck Bowden, James McBride. I worked for 11 years as the story development editor at National Geographic, where I oversaw environmental, geopolitical, and culture stories. I produced award-winning special issues and stories on sustainable food, water scarcity, conflict minerals, climate change, population issues, child brides, and threats to indigenous people. Before that, I was the editor-in-chief of Time Inc’s Health magazine in San Francisco for six years. I'm now an independent radio producer and writer living in Washington, D.C. and the host and producer of a podcast called Midway, stories of people in transition. The second season will launch in 2019. I've produced stories for WHYY's The Pulse and NHPR's Outside In. In 2016 I completed the 9-week Transom Story Workshop in Woods Hole on Cape Cod. I've written for National Geographic, the New York Times, Oprah, Discover, and Texas Monthly.
