I perform observations of other staff members, review documentation by medical staff, present educational sessions for medical staff, provide consultation as needed for medical, phlebotomy, and screening staff, evaluate daily performance of laboratory procedures, and oversee the validation of test performance against industry standards.

Obtained targeted medical histories and physical exams of potential plasmapheresis donors; presented educational materials about the donation process and obtained consent forms. Treated donors for any adverse responses to the process. As the medical director and laboratory director at the Grifols-Biomat Donation Center in Seattle, WA, I also did observations of other staff members, reviewing documentation by medical staff, presenting educational sessions for medical staff, providing consultation as needed for medical, phlebotomy, and screening staff, evaluating daily performance of laboratory procedures, and overseeing the validation of test performance against industry standards.

IEH is a privately-owned microbiology laboratory and consultation service. It offers specimen analysis using standard microbiologic methods as well as molecular biology (e.g., PCR, RFLP speciation and strain typing) to private parties and agencies, often addressing food production and environmental issues. Services include process and critical event evaluation and review, problem abatement, and litigation support. This work entailed examining and evaluating both individual case records and community/state communicable disease statistics for significant differences and trends. More recently the work focus shifted to the development and expansion of laboratory services into broader areas of clinical testing, especially esoteric studies such as metabolic stress indicators.

Responsible for developing and implementing disease control programs utilizing specific scientific training and skills (including medicine, epidemiology, and biostatistics) in this public health agency. This included investigating acute and chronic diseases in normal situations and outbreaks, maintaining disease surveillance and reporting, using and writing applications in MS-Access software, using a statewide, net-based data reporting system, organizing studies as needed, collecting and analyzing data, identifying associated and causal factors, and recommending strategies for disease abatement and control. I informed and educated the local community of overall communicable disease risks and outbreak events via media interviews, data publications and innumerable direct communications with professionals and laypersons. Work also involved providing consultant services to local health care providers, agencies and institutions regarding communicable diseases of public health significance and environmental exposure issues.

This was a short-term clinical position providing care for drop-in clients, many of disadvantaged backgrounds.
