Promoted to lead financial activities and grow newly created, Houston-based CHRISTUS Continuing Care comprised of 457 licensed beds at 15 LTACHs that previously had been run by its Dubuis Health System division, as well as home health, hospice and retirement center entities. Directed a 50-member team and oversaw all financial activities, including patient and financial accounting, reimbursement, managed care, information management, materials management, budgeting, cash management, accounts payable, payroll and decision support. Collaborated with six different Boards of Directors simultaneously, providing exceptional strategic, financial and operational expertise to drive sound corporate decision-making.IMPACT: Helped grow division to become the 20th largest post-acute care company in U.S. by combining LTACH, home health, hospice and retirement center revenues under one company, generating $200M in net annual revenue within four years of formation. Spearheaded financial turnaround of homecare division—comprised of nine agencies that provide home health, hospice, pediatric and community-based programs throughout Louisiana and Texas—and produced $4M improvement to bottom line within first year of tenure. Redesigned revenue cycle processes, increasing cash collections and reducing net accounts receivable by $2.6M for homecare division over four years. Led research, selection, board presentation and implementation of a new information management system for homecare division that is expected to yield net revenue enhancements and cost savings of $2.5M per year once fully operational in late 2013.Generated estimated $200K in annual labor cost savings by consolidating post-acute division’s accounts payable, payroll, HR and materials management functions into an existing structure at CHRISTUS corporate.

Recruited to top financial role for $125M post-acute care division of CHRISTUS, which owns and operates 15 LTACHs in Texas, Louisiana, Georgia, Arkansas, Missouri and Iowa. Charged with driving expansion and revenue growth by negotiating management agreements with unaffiliated LTACHs and establishing new entities. Oversaw all financial functions, encompassing accounting, patient financial services, budgeting, cash management, third-party reimbursement, materials management, information management, accounts payable, payroll and managed care contracting. Collaborated with VP of Development to explore numerous business opportunities and prepared financial projections to support due diligence efforts. Led team of 30 finance-related employees and administered a $120M operating budget.IMPACT: Grew financial operations as system expanded from a five-hospital network in two states at the time of hire to a nationally recognized chain of 15 hospitals by 2008, encompassing 457 beds. Piloted a team that established an automated time and attendance system, which included implementation and compliance monitoring with labor standards for all departments and positions. Initiative produced estimated annual savings of $3M. Saved $800K in interest expenses by strategically directing cash management efforts and paying off 100% of the company’s long-term debt.Produced nearly $500K in annual savings after implementing numerous productivity improvement and cost-saving measures, including the establishment of a remote coding structure in the Health Information Management department, regional Administrator positions with multi-site responsibilities, and a centralized admission and insurance verification function. Directed due diligence within the restructure of Dubuis Health System, including $14M sale and transfer of management agreement rights of 11 facilities to CHRISTUS Continuing Care in 2009.
