Engineering manager for a software team that fluctuated between five and thirteen engineers. Introduced a scrum software-development practice from the ground up, gaining buy-in from engineers first and acceptance and endorsement from upper-management. Acted as scrum manager, lead developer on a 18,000-line TypeScript/React application and a 29,000-line Ember application, both with > 80% test coverage, linting, CI, and screenshot regression-testing. Both applications were shipped to critical customers with positive results. Ran the Northern California JavaScript (norcal.js) Meetup and had the best front-end development team in the North Bay Area.

JavaScript engineer and engineering manager for user-interface team: Worked on the process of converting a thick-client application to a JavaScript-intensive web application. Worked with other engineers to develop a solid JavaScript engineering practice, including developing coding standards, ensuring test coverage, maintaining solid code-review processes, and continuous integration. Developed a process to integrate automated selenium tests into the development process to supplement existing unit-tests. Worked with engineers to explore new technologies and refine the tech stack with React, Webpack.

Develop front-end and back-end website for managing a huge international network of 5000+ router nodes. Automate configuration management, and maintain a large database of network infrastructure. Integrate with other databases and systems throughout the company to reduce time-to-install and time-to-repair.

I focused on paying off technical debt that GE Security had with respect to its key software development partner for the Interactive Services project, a major NPI initiative in 2009. I co-authored support plans and additional software specifications that would assist in taking a dealer-channel system to market. Developed billing process spec & customer support plan with sign-off from stakeholders, created budget for GE datacenter: licenses, hosting, and DC personnel. Performed security analysis of 3rd-party software and hosting services in partnership with GE corporate. Developed System Design Document (SDD), and Software Development Plan (SDP) for a new Billing Interface to Oracle Financials. Reviewed Component Derived Requirements Documents (CDRDs) by the engineering teams and reviewed progress weekly. Built out a minor datacenter in US: pulled 30-amp circuits; ran IDF circuits; racked /configured / installed switches, NAS, servers; set up network services. Set up 4 testing environments, with DNS, SSL certs, Tomcat web/app servers, Oracle 10g databases and monitoring.

• Ran a successful New Product Introduction project: worked with a team of eight to design, plan, construct, manufacture, and test a new software/hardware product for the Real Estate industry. Developed the Product requirements and system design, wrote most of the use cases, provided mentoring for the software developers, coordinated Alpha tests, worked through manufacturing and production issues and shipped product on time to the customer who wanted 129% more of the product than they originally asked for. Implemented some aspects of “agile development” to provide visibility of the project to all aspects of the business throughout the development. • Worked with senior SQA staff and software, hardware, and mechanical engineering leadership to develop and implement standards for quality.• Reviewed test plans, coverage, and testing progress for three multi-million dollar projects.

• Managed a team of seven for all IT-related tasks related to the development, testing, staging, training, demonstration, and customer-deployment of SaaS (Software as a Service) developed by GE Security/Real Estate’s Software Engineering group for use by over 100,000 customers daily. • Implemented and maintained extremely high standards in Change Management and Release Management, which decreased the Incidents to the Service Desk by 90% and increased speed of deployment by 90%. • Refined internal communications processes and procedures, and worked on gaining better metrics to determine capacity and project growth. • Developed and implemented an Incident Management plan for the business: worked directly with the other business leaders in the company (customer liaison, materials, call center, and software engineering). Leveraged extensive experience and reputation consulting for major enterprises and start-up companies up and down the west coast to co-found a top-tier networking and security consulting firm. Consulted with major enterprises (e.g. Diagnostic Ultrasound, Freightliner, Jeld-wen, Epson) and pubic-sector entities (e.g. Washington County, Clackamas County, Oregon Emergency Management) regarding their network security policies, design, and implementation. Invented (and patented) several of the key technologies used in a software product that eventually came to be deployed in Fortune 500 enterprises throughout the Pacific Northwest (Weyehauser, Ch2M Hill, GE/Cisco, others). Used extensive knowledge of networking, security, software development, and Linux operating system to constantly push the technology to new features and levels of performance.
