Planned and delivered a family of hardware designs for next generation AI processors at the forefront of technology. Designs included PCIe Gen 5 add in cards, 400Gbps Ethernet, custom cooling solutions and systems.Expanded the team from EE designers using external contract support into more specialized in house SI, Power, Mechanical and EE/PCB disciplines.

Brought up our first generation test chip boards, and subsequently architected and designed the next two generations of PCIe cards, rack mounted servers and characterization boards. Grayskull and Wormhole chips included LPDDR4, GDDR6, PCI Express and 100Gbps Ethernet. Formed a team from a single person to a larger multi-disciplinary group. Drove contractor work to supplement the team skill set.

Assisted with the qualification and production launch of the update to the flagship PTS32K system based on Intel Xeon Scaleable processors and chipset. Provided insight into manufacturing failures, and mentored other team members.Spearheaded the hardware release of new OEM server systems. Worked with product management and development resources to ensure the build offerings were correct, and negotiated improved pricing.

Assisted in the development of the new unified Cinema/ProVenue electrical architecture that serves both projector families. Negotiated requirements with product management, ProVenue developers, and developed specifications.Co-ordinated my team of six developers working across multiple programs. Communicated with program management and contract manufacturing. Tested, deployed and trained the team on the new OrCAD schematic capture tool. Investigated multiple system configuration options for the back end data management and central library systems.Led high profile multi-disciplinary field failure investigations that dramatically cut down failure rates.

Responsible for the architecture of multiple new platforms, communicating upwards the cost savings, feature sets, and trade-offs on development time of various approaches.Designed complex PCB assemblies including multiple FPGAs, DDR3 and DDR4, and Christie’s first SERDES interfaces at 12.5Gbps. Performed schematic capture in PADS and OrCAD and continued to review designs all across the company. Developed simulation methodology for, and performed training to, the wider EE group on SERDES links using Quantum Channel Designer and DDR simulation using HyperLynx.

Developed PCB designs to support multiple projector projects including the new Series 2 line of Cinema products and an intelligent motorized lens mount. Participated in design reviews all across the organization focusing on physical layout constraints and improvements. Developed and deployed design verification reports for all designs in the Cinema group.Performed field failure analysis and data collection to aid in the deployment of the Series 2 Cinema products and developed debugging and diagnostic guides for the Service and Engineering groups.

Generated product specifications for multi-port serial cards based on customer requirements.Performed schematic capture and PCB layout in PCAD. Ordered PCBs and components, assembled prototypes, and took the design through bring-up and qualification before training the production staff how to test the new product. Designs ranged from PCI-based systems at 33MHz to PCI Express at 2.5Gbps.Spearheaded the RoHS conversion of our PCBs and materials including component identification based on markings, date codes, or part numbers.

Designed and haptic interface for a vision system being developed by a master’s candidate at the University. The system was meant to provide enhanced vision to visually impaired individuals and was featured on CBC television.Programmed a USB-connected 8051 microcontroller to respond to messages and change the vibration intensity of a series of pager motors mounted to a golf glove. The system vibrated to “show” the user what the vision system was seeing.

Completed a digital conversion project that had been started by previous co-op students. The box took the positional encoder information from a measurement jig and converted it to human readable form on a LED display. Programmed a 68HC12 microcontroller in assembly to perform the conversion and format the count data for the display.
