The Office of Police Integrity was an independent statutory body that investigated misconduct and corruption in Victoria Police. Established in November 2004, it reported directly to the Victorian Parliament. OPI ceased operations in 2013.Reporting to the Director, OPI/ Victorian OmbudsmanResponsibilities • provision of strategic advice to the Director, and Ombudsman, on relevant media issues• managing relationships with journalists across print, television and radio• handled media requests regarding current issues• worked with the Director and Ombudsman to draft appropriate responses.This highly sensitive environment and the role involved strategic judgment and discretion in managing stakeholders, including government departments and Victoria Police as well as the media.

Our consultancy developed and implemented a media and communications strategy for the closure of the Kodak Australasia plant in Melbourne during June – September 2004. We prepared speaking points for the CEO regarding the closure and liaised with key stakeholders including the state and federal governments, and the unions. We managed internal communications at the plant and conducted media training for the CEO and his executive team.

ResponsibilitiesBuilding a media profile for the Law Institute to reestablish its public role on behalf of the state’s solicitors. • coordinated regular appearances for the President on commercial media - television news, radio, along with a fortnightly legal affairs segment for the President on ABC rural radio to reestablish the LIV’s profile to its membership base• involved in coordinating the media and communications activities for events such as the Commonwealth Law Conference held in Melbourne in 2003. I coordinated the media centre attended by national and international reporters and produced a daily newsletter about the conference, in conjunction with a major law firm who sponsored the event. • prepared speech notes and presentations for the CEO and President at public speaking engagements, often at short notice. I also prepared opinion pieces for publication in the Age and Herald Sun, and wrote a monthly column in the LIV Journal.

Senior Media Adviser Worked in the Premier’s Media Unit where I was primarily the media adviser for the Transport Minister and the Minister for Energy and Resources.ResponsibilitiesI provided strategic media advise to two senior Ministers, and accompanied the Premier to media events. I was responsible for finalising media releases and planning media events related to major government announcements including the Eastern Freeway extension, the Fast Rail Regional link and restoring flows to the Snowy River. I worked with a number of government agencies including VicRoads. Each week, I accompanied the Minister to regional and rural centres for media launches and stakeholder engagement opportunities. I also assisted backbenches on media-related issues in their electorates.

I covered law, police and crime, general news and for a short time worked on "Insight"​, the paper's investigative unit. I was a Victorian finalist in the industry’s Walkley Journalism awards for a series of political/legal stories.
