Paul Edwards is a Founding Partner at the law firm of Cowen Edwards, PLLC. where he has the pleasure of representing clients in Federal and state courts throughout Florida. Mr. Edwards’ practice focuses on personal injury and property claims as well as commercial and business litigation. Mr. Edwards spent the first several years of his legal practice working on behalf of prominent insurance companies and this experience gives him invaluable insight into the insurance claim, investigation and litigation processes. Prior to founding Cowen Edwards, PLLC, Mr. Edwards was a partner for over 5 years at another Fort Lauderdale firm devoting his practice to litigating a wide range of commercial, real property and personal injury disputes and still provides trial and litigation support when needed. Mr. Edwards also handles general practice matters and consults for a wide variety of businesses and professionals.Mr. Edwards obtained his law degree from Nova Southeastern University, Shepard Broad Law Center. During law school, Mr. Edwards focused on refining his advocacy skills as an active member of multiple trial competition teams and Board Member of the Nova Trial Association. Mr. Edwards was awarded with several team and individual awards for his efforts and also received the High Grade Award in Advanced Trial Advocacy. Upon graduation Mr. Edwards advocacy was further recognized by his receipt of the National Institute for Trial Advocacy Excellence in Advocacy Award and his induction into the Order of Barristers.No two cases are the same, and therefore no two cases should be treated the same. Mr. Edwards prides himself on his attention to detail and singular focus both in the evaluation of his client’s issues and in pursuing his client’s goals.

Formerly a Partner at the firm, Mr. Edwards provides litigation and trial counsel services for the firm in cases involving a wide range of practice areas, including real estate, probate and commercial litigation.

Assisted in trial preparation and pleading punitive damages against corporate and individual defendants in a highly complex litigation stemming from false allegations of domestic terrorism. Obtained a permanent injunction for client who was the victim of cyberstalking.

Actively litigated insurance defense caseload in excess of 300 cases from initial claim analysis through trial.Argued various contested motions ranging from discovery disputes to summary judgment and conducted in-person Daubert hearing addressing admissibility of actuarial testimony on medical pricing.Participated in mediation and arbitration and negotiated resolution of numerous claims including settlement of attorney fees.Communicated effectively with a broad client base on all aspects of pending litigation and prepared clients for deposition and trial examination.

Assisted and conducted client jailhouse interview through federally certified interpreter.Aided in preparation of high-level, multiple felony case from inception through jury trial.Conducted legal research in both criminal and civil matters involving lesser included offenses, mandatory minimum sentencing, immigration issues and protective orders of discovery.Drafted motion to stay discovery during pendency of motion to dismiss for jurisdictional issues.Attended hearings ranging from complex Federal criminal matters to multinational civil litigation.

Participated in and observed various stages of criminal litigation from plea bargaining to sentencing.
