Responsible for managing multi-vendor networks for multiple customers from SMEs to global enterprises. Responsibilities include design, implementation, diagnostics and deployment of Cisco and Juniper firewall and VPN (SSL and IPSEC) devices, Bluecoat Proxies, Cisco Catalyst switches/routers Cisco ACE and Citrix Netscaler loadbalancing solutions in datacenter and remote site situations. Patching and upgrading of production devices following different change procedures laid down by different customers. Monitoring of incident/request and change management queues for multiple customers ensuring the service level and operational level agreements are met.As a 3rd line Engineer I am responsible for writing of operational procedures to ensure consistent working methods across a geographically diverse team and providing customer and technology based presentations for knowledge transfer to 2nd line and 3rd line team membersRegular meetings between customers, project managers and management for day-to-day operations and project based updates.

Responsible for the design, implementation and maintenance of global multi-firewall architectures and the integration of diverse firewall technologies. Managing Cisco PIX, Nokia/IPSO, Solaris, Crossbeam and W2K based Checkpoint FW-1 and Checkpoint Edge (sofaware) firewalls, ensuring that versions are kept current, including upgrades between windows and Checkpoint Secure Platform. Integration of firewall technologies, including VLANs (802.1q) OSPF, RIP, and VRRP into complex Cisco based networks. Configuring site to site and remote access IPSEC VPNs within a Cisco environment.

In the short time I was with the NEC group, I improved network security by writing and implementing the NEC security policy and network procedures, installing Checkpoint Firewall-1 and managed security service, and the implementation of a new anti-virus policy and associated software. I also planned and documented 3 and 5 year plans for refreshing server and network equipment, allowing for expansion of the network, and outlined a server consolidation program to reducing 65 Novell and Microsoft NT servers to approximately 35 servers. Working closely with senior management to ensure that the budget for these plans would be available when required.

While working for EDS I gained valuable experience in Project Management, in a customer-facing role, ensuring my projects stayed within budget, to tight time scales, and to the customers’ specifications. Regularly attending meetings with external contractors and Rolls-Royce representatives up to Director level to define and confirm requirements for new and upgraded network installations.
