As the developer platform team we are responsible for the tooling, libraries and developer experience within Picnic. Recently the Java and Python platform teams have been combined and I now have a role in setting up projects to bring these two worlds in Picnic to an equal feature and quality level, and to develop them further. With a team of 9 we ensure that all services within Picnic are developed more efficiently.

Working in the 'Java Platform' team with its responsibility to improve the efficiency of many tech-related roles within Picnic. We achieve this through developing a flexible common code-base setup, to automatically streamline code styles, by taking away common logic such as authorization, managing library dependencies and managing an extensible common DSL for both CI and CD. As part of my thesis of the Software Engineering master at the University of Amsterdam, I conducted part of my research at Picnic. The research focused on how to identify microservice boundaries in a monolithic web application by using a data-focused approach.

The primary focus in this period as tech lead was to guide fellow team members and transfer my knowledge about the products mentioned in prior experience. Furthermore, I participate in (stakeholder) discussions about product potential and architectures. I also provided aid to colleagues facing technological challenges.During this time, I've furthermore lead the integration project of Xillio API into LocHub to utilize the power of all the connectors to the target systems for translation use-cases. Next to that, we also added translation automation in LocHub based on these target systems.

We started the development of a new product: 'Xillio API'. Xillio API offers a uniform API for more than 20 content management systems. Due to its uniform API, our users can use all of the connectors by only building one integration which solves many of their connectivity challenges. I mainly had a role in creating specifications, setting up the architecture, Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment of Xillio API. I've also added more functionality to this product such as custom metadata support and multi-tenancy. Furthermore, I have contributed in the design and development of the product LocHub. LocHub centralizes translation projects and gives a content owner the ability to select a translation service to their liking. Here, I've helped in the architecture, CI and CD as well. The final product that I've developed together with Thomas Biesaart is an internal application used by our professional services team for doing fileshare analyses. This application is based on an ETL-architecture to scrape data from a system and transform it so that it can be used in Xillio Insights.

When I joined Xillio I started maintaining and improving their scripting language called 'Xill' and its corresponding IDE. New features were shipped with plugins in its plugin architecture. This language grew into a tool used for content migration projects by both Xillio and their partners which is still being used as of today.
