Graduate in Electrical Engineering and Computer science from the University of Sydney. My first 12 years were spent working on simulators culminating the role of Software Development Manager for an avionics simulator project. 14 years have been mainly in Telecommunications working mainly in customer care and order management and billing. The emphasis has been on systems integration using a services bus. I have worked with multiple integration technologies most recently SOAP and previously Tibco, tuxedo, JMS, Dec MsgQ and home grown. For the last 2 years I've been working in the Energy industry integrating remote telemetry devices into existing systems and trialling new technology to evaluate their effect on consumer behaviour. The work has a high Telco content with electrical engineering and real-time distributed systems.I have worked on 39 projects in my 28 years, varying in size for $100K to $70M. I have estimated programs of work to $140M and delivered projects in as little as 6 week. A high churn in project managers meant I have tended to be the one seeing projects through to completion.My early work was distributed real-time systems with embedded processors. Recent work has been with real-time billing systems, B2B gateways and portals. over the years I have designed in more and more configurability to solutions so users can configure many changes at low cost. This has resulted in a number of recent projects that only required me to explain how to configure the solution and no code change.I am equally at home briefing the CIO or customers as with a code walkthrough or discussion on a relationship on a class diagram with developers. My method is based on UML. I read Jacobson, Booch and Raumbough before the unification. The method is more than the notation so I use diagrams when I can and the tools are available but think OO all the time and structure my words accordingly.
