Pedro is an accomplished bioinformatician and evolutionary biologist with a Ph.D. in Biology from Universidade Nova de Lisboa (UNL), Portugal. His expertise began with using Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data to explore genomic modifications in microbe domestication, where he developed a solid foundation in both wet lab and computational techniques. As a post-doctoral Research Associate at University College London (UCL), UK, he designed computational approaches to detect sex-linked variation during early sex chromosome differentiation using various NGS technologies. This work allowed him to merge his background in evolutionary biology with advanced bioinformatics to address complex biological questions. More recently, his hands-on experience as a Senior Genetics Technician at HeartGenetics, Genetics & Biotechnology has allowed him to actively engage in research projects focused on personalised health, pharmacogenetics and precision oncology, a role that has broadened his expertise into translational research, bridging the gap between genomics and clinical applications.Pedro has collaborated with international research teams from the UK, Sweden, and China, and has published extensively in high-profile journals such as Nature Communications and Nature Ecology & Evolution. He has also contributed to the scientific community as a peer reviewer for several journals. His robust background in bioinformatics, microbiology, and genetics, combined with excellent communication and teamwork skills, enables him to bring a unique perspective to multidisciplinary teams and drive impactful research.
