I am a dynamic and results-driven researcher and data scientist with 10+ years’ experience of delivering high-impact research projects. My research has primarily focused on the intersection of speech perception, neuroscience, and behavioural psychology. With strong analytical and statistical skills, I am passionate about guiding projects and people through every stage: from conceptual big picture thinking and the development of innovative hypotheses to robust experimental design, meticulous data analysis, insightful interpretation, and clear communication of results and real-world insights and impact. As a speech scientist and psycholinguist, I study how people perceive and understand spoken language. Listening to speech is something we do every day, and yet we seldom take pause to consider what an amazing feat this is. In my research, I use electroencephalography (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to investigate the millisecond-scale mechanisms involved in language processing.I have been a full-time researcher for over ten years, and I have been Chief Investigator for two large research projects funded by the Swedish Research Council. This has led to a number of publications in high-impact journals, as well as a peer-reviewed book on neural speech perception commissioned by Cambridge University Press – Phonetics in the Brain – published in 2024. I have also had the opportunity to supervise a number of Masters and PhD candidates, and I have enjoyed acting as a consultant on statistics and conceptual and experimental design on external projects.I am particularly interested in how the brain anticipates upcoming information, something we do constantly and seemingly effortlessly: just imagine how quickly we predict the word "mat" in a sentence like "The cat sat on the mat". Throughout my career, I have studied the predictive processes that make it possible to anticipate how a word or sentence is going to end when we've only heard the initial fragment of that word or sentence.
