About Penny Gardner
I am an ecologist with a background in research of forest ecology including the natural behaviours of large wild mammals, invertebrates that provide ecosystem services, and pollen morphology. I am interested in non-invasive techniques that permit the investigation of the environment/species of importance, including tools such as remote infrared camera trapping, sign detection, molecular analysis, DNA barcoding and droning. I am currently the Species Coordinator for the SSC IUCN Asian Wild Cattle Specialist Group.I have previously coordinated and managed an EIA wildlife survey for an intensive prawn farm development, which involved a creative approach to mitigating the ensuring impacts upon the biodiversity. I have experience in compiling technical reports on the ecology of wild cattle, the presence and impacts of poaching activity, a wildlife survey element for an EIA report, and coauthored the Bornean Banteng Action Plan 2019-2028. I am active in publishing peer-reviewed scientific papers in the fields of forest ecology, forest management and species conservation. I regularly use a range of software in research, including statistical analysis using R Gui and digital mapping using ArcGIS 10.1.I am presently home-based in Hampshire, England (U.K) and am affiliated to Southampton University and Cardiff University as a Visiting Academic/Visiting Research Fellow.
Listed skills include Molecular Biology, Science, Statistics, Biochemistry, and 18 others.
