Mentor SAR Captain and Pilot. Daily responsibilities similar to Line Training Captain, including SAR role staff continuation training of co-pilots and crewmen and captaincy training of co-pilots. A variety of missions flown, including offshore and overland search and rescue, fire suppression (Bambi Bucket) and medical transfer of critically ill patients. Two year contract, completed January 2015.

United Kingdom

Including four tours as Sea King Captain flying surveillance missions in Afghanistan, single pilot, in challenging environmental conditions on long duration sorties, including night ops on NVG. Working independently or in support of other units. Previously qualified and experienced in zero visibility (dust) desert landings, by day and night (NVG).

Two-year appointment flying as pilot and crew commander in the largest SAR region in the UK, covering some of the world’s busiest sea-lanes. A wide variety of missions flown, including small fishing vessels, large commercial vessels, swimmer rescues, medical transits and a large amount of coastal cliff winching work, applying standard mountain flying techniques. Conducting rescues using standard and abstract SAR profiles in all weathers and on NVG.

As the commander of the forty personnel of the HMCS Ville de Quebec HELAIRDET (January 2005 to late February 2006) sole responsibility and accountability to the Ship’s Captain for all aspects of aviation on board this mixed English/French speaking frigate as Aviation Head of Department. Ensured that the detachment was consistently the most combat ready on the squadron by using clear, concise and simple goals and objectives, clear leadership and a proactive approach including the training and qualifying of novice co-pilots in deck landing techniques and re-familiarising and educating the ship’s bridge department on aviation matters.
