The old adage says “half my marketing spend is wasted; the trouble is, I don't know which half”, but today this isn’t true. Along with the advent of digital marketing came the ability to track and report on nearly every aspect of marketing…I am creative marketer with experience in sales and a passion for marketing. A fact-based and data-driven decision maker with a natural aptitude for working with information. I believe the Marketing department should be driven by data just as much as the Accounts or Sales department. Everything in marketing can now be tracked and analysed. As well as understanding the day to day marketing role I love the chance to take a step back and work on the strategy - I particularly enjoy presenting strategies or complicated concepts in visual ways to aid understanding.My BackgroundI have been passionate about marketing since I studied branding in school. As well as consuming every marketing article I can find, I have furthered my studies with a number of courses including with the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) & Advanced Business Management. As well as marketing, I have a background in sales. Understanding how sales works and having practical experience of leading a customer on the journey from no knowledge of your company to loyal customer is an essential experience for any marketer. Sales is about forming a relationship in which a customer gives you their attention, understands your message and chooses to trust you with their money. The ability to communicate benefits, while tailoring your message to the particular type of customer, is a sales skill that is directly applicable to a marketing role.Get to know me- Born in Cambridge, UK – the city of learning, bikes & punts.- Grew up in small town America – Kalispell, MT. High up in the Rocky Mountains with arguably the most beautiful scenery in the world. - Married a Kiwi (not the fruit). My wife is from Northland, New Zealand – we try and visit her family there whenever we can.- Enjoy photography – particularly landscapes and creative long exposures (star trails etc)- Happiest out in the hills or by the coasts, hiking or taking pictures
