I am a Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. I hold both an MD and an MPH from Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston, Massachusetts. I completed my emergency medicine training at the University of Chicago, where I had the honor of serving as chief resident. Afterward, I pursued a fellowship in International Emergency Medicine at Stanford University, where I now hold the rank of Clinical Associate Professor. I’m also a Faculty Fellow with the Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH) at Stanford.My academic work in global health has primarily focused on strengthening health systems, especially emergency referral systems, to expand access to emergency care for vulnerable populations like mothers and newborns. I’ve had the opportunity to work in several countries, concentrating on South and Southeast Asia as well as Sub-Saharan Africa, where I aim to help health facilities better identify critically ill patients, coordinate safe and effective transport, and enhance the emergency care they receive upon arriving at a definitive care location.I’ve also collaborated extensively with GVK EMRI, the world’s largest prehospital care system, in India, and with the Nepal Ambulance Service to improve the quality and reach of prehospital care and emergency referral systems in both regions. Currently, I’m involved in multiple projects aimed at improving the measurement and effectiveness of emergency referral systems. This includes supporting the revision of the Averting Maternal Death and Disability tool.Most recently, I’ve been working to establish partnerships in Sri Lanka to better understand current patterns of road traffic accident injuries and outcomes, and how we can leverage existing prehospital care and emergency resources to optimize those outcomes.
