About Peter Acton
I started work as an Apprentice for British Rail Engineering Ltd on the 2 September 1974. When I came out of my apprenticeship I was working in the Tool Room, and and very quickly moved into an Inspection roll in the machine shops. I then progressed into Quality Assurance ending up as the Quality Systems Manager for the Bogie Division. In 1994, I decided to take a career move into Project management where I went back to University to gain my Master Degree (MBA). As a Project Manager in the Bogie Division I managed many multi million pound internal UK projects such as the 1st chiltern DMU, Midland Mainline DMU, Scotrail DMU and LTS and Connex projects. I then Project managed projects in the Far East including several projects for the Taiwan Railway Administration interfacing with the Korean companies of Daewoo and Hyundai. By far the best achievement was the delivery of the District Line Refurbishment project for LUL where new flexible bogies were designed and installed under the exsisting car bodies. I then moved into the Systems Division and worked on the Victoria Line Upgrade, becoming the Project Director for the last 3 years delivering successfully on time. I then moved onto the SSR project for Rail Control Systems (RCS) and became the Senior Project Director 18 months after the project had started.

The SSR has sections of four track, two track and single-track lines and has areas of interoperability with the Jubilee, Piccadilly and Network Rail Lines.
