Start-up: Developed a strategic plan to identify funding, secure locations, coordinate with contractors and apply for necessary permitting to build a Distilled Spirits Plant (DSP). Assisted in the installation of major equipment and functioned as the liaison between contractors, architects and governing officials.Brand Development: Developed branding and aesthetics in collaboration with design partners and graphic artists. Wrote copy and developed trade names for specific products. Ensured the veracity and compliance of labeling claims with federally regulated Certificates of Label Approval (COLAs)Corporate Compliance: Ensured operational, labeling, accounting and product compliance to the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau (TTB), Michigan Liquor Control Commission and Michigan Department of Agriculture. Worked collaboratively with the bookkeeper and certified public accountant to oversee compliance with local, state and federal accounting practices.Operations: Intimate knowledge with all stages of the production process, including: milling, mashing, distilling, fermenting, proofing and ageing of a variety of distilled spirit products.Personnel Management: Identified personnel, roles and responsibilities for manufacturing, retail and sales associates. Greenhouse Gas Inventory: Conducted a corporate greenhouse gas inventory in accordance with the World Resource Institute’s (WRI) Greenhouse Gas and CarbonNeutral Company Protocols. Devised a program for monitoring and analyzing greenhouse gas emissions electronically. Conducted costs analysis associated with attaining carbon-neutrality through the acquisition of renewable energy credits, verified emission reductions and the sequestration potential of company owned properties.Product Certifications: Achieved and managed a variety of third-party product certifications including: The Sustainable Assessment for Carpet (ANSI/NSF 140), recycled content validation, ISO 14040 life cycle assessments, carbon-neutrality and renewable energy offset claims.Life Cycle Assessments (LCA): Worked collaboratively with LCA practitioners to conduct analysis on products and acquire gate-to-gate life cycle inventory data. Currently devising an in-house LCA program to integrate design for environment (DfE) concepts in the product development process utilizing GaBi 4 LCA software and ultimately achieve ISO 14025 environmental product declarations (EPD).ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS): As the ISO 14001 Environment Management Representative responsibilities include ensuring compliance with stated policies, target and objectives. Manage document control, associate training and standard enforcement. Ensure certification is maintained under the scrutiny of annual third-party audits. Environmental Marketing: Worked collaboratively with the marketing department to create environmental marketing collateral and ensured the veracity of technical claims.Research and Development: Evaluation of alternative recycled content fillers and bio-based materials for incorporation into existing carpet products. Assisting with ongoing research to close-loop recycle a polyethylene carpet tile.

Wege Foundation grant recipient through The University of Michigan Center for Sustainable Systems. This began as a paid internship and evolved into additional consulting service contracts. Material Substantiation: Researched standards regarding the recycled content and recyclability of common materials used in Steelcase products to ensure marketing claims comport with FTC guidelines.Recycled Content Database: Designed a database used to assess the recycled content of Steelcase’s products, which enabled the development and management of marketing materials indicating the available LEED contributions of these products.Product Environmental Profiles (PEP): Edited the content of PEPs, which outline the LEED contributions available for individual Steelcase products.

ArcGIS Contamination Layer: Conducted background research and designed excel documents to aid the creation of an ArcGIS data layer of contaminated sites within the City of Ann Arbor.Lighting Ordinance: Supported development of a lighting ordinance, reviewed ordinances from other communities, developed a presentation for public engagement, and conducted a fieldwork assessment.Pre-consumer Organics: Researched pre-consumer organics loading at the wastewater treatment plant to determine the impacts (BOD) of expanding a local composting program.Environmentally Preferable Purchasing: Developed a draft audit document for city services used to identify key areas and to expand environmentally preferable purchasing. Researched audit tools from other municipalities. Interviewed facility managers about purchasing trends.Municipal Fleet Parts Inventory: Conducted inventory analysis of parts purchasing and storage to streamline operations and minimize city costs. Inventoried parts in stock, recommended new stocking procedures, entered all data and modified parameters to Mainsaver software. These efforts saved the city over $100,000.Green Fleets: Compiled and analyzed data to create a baseline study of fleet fuel and emission trends; this facilitated the implementation of the Green Fleets policy aimed to reduce fleet fuel consumption 10% by 2012.Idling Ordinance: Created a draft idling ordinance using input from the Environmental Commission and models from other municipalities. Prepared a presentation highlighting key issues for public engagement. Participated in discussions to design an effective enforcement process.Phosphorus Ordinance Implementation Strategy: Designed a public education strategy to facilitate compliance with new phosphorous ordinance.Land Fill: Drafted a Request for Qualification (RFQ) seeking firms capable of remediating 1,4 Dioxanine and Vinyl Chloride at the municipal landfill.
