I have worked in Dept Social Science since 1988, having obtained a 2:1 honours degree in Human Psychology (1984-87) from Loughborough University. My final year dissertation was entitled “Factors affecting sleep in the non-institutionalised elderly: A Questionnaire Approach"​ and published in 'Community Psychiatry : Its Practice and Management'​ (August 1989, Vol 2, pp19-20) and revealed the issues of elderly sleep behaviour, health and life-style.I am a graduate member of the British Psychological Society (BPS) since 1989.My daily work is very varied and consists of academic and research support initially with admin and a myriad of other sundry duties like being a Fire Marshal, DSE Assessor and member of the Campus Watch team. One of my main areas of support is in statistics/data analysis and I help students with using the latest version of SPSS, reliability/validity of using psychological tests/surveys. I also have experience with on line surveys and use them in the teaching and research arena.From July 2012-2016 I was elected President of the Association of Technical Staff in Psychology. I am representing the interests and concerns of the membership with regards (a) professionalism (b) networking (c) training opportunities (d) outreach to BPS, HEA for facilitating the challenges facing technical staff in psychology departments. I have been strategic in promoting a new research award for technicians and also helping produce a new supplementary guidance for technical staff in psychology in Oct 2014Research paper entitled 'Do they know us? Do they like Us?' accepted and now published by BPS West Midlands Branch Newsletter Issue 4 Autumn 2015 pages 7-10 and published in the January 2016 edition of the Psychologist https://thepsychologist.bps.org.uk/volume-29/january-2016/unseen-unsung-heroes I am also Chaplaincy Assistant in the Chaplaincy/Center for Faith and Spirituality. I help in events and services and look after the library resources.

11 years with this MOD contractor.Learned a great deal in the first 5 years of the apprenticeship. I worked in electrical and mechanical assembly, Test and Inspection, Stock Control and Production Conntrol, Tinsmiths, and Design and Research. If you see those fancy yellow fog detectors at airports...I use to be involved in their manufacture. I attended Charles Keene College (now Leicester College) for 5 years undertaking City and Guilds in Electrical Engineering. I also participated in work based projects for my apprenticeship which was very rewarding. The site now is a house develeopment!!
