Co-Chair of Governors (Greenfield Primary School (Barnsley LA), Chair of Governors Summer Lane Primary School (Barnsley LA).I have considerable experience of school governance, having worked in this field since 1999. I was the strategic lead officer for school governance in Wakefield LA until December 2018. My main duties included but were not restricted to: working alongside school improvement advisers, taking the lead role to strengthen governance in Wakefield schools, managing the governing body clerking service for Wakefield LA, appointing, training, advising and supporting clerks, writing policies and procedures, drafting agenda and minutes templates, drafting committee terms of reference for Wakefield schools, drafting supporting documents for Governors (e.g. an annual planner) delivering training to school governors (I also draft training materials), mentoring new Chairs of Governors and offering targeted support to individual governing bodies (usually ones linked to a school causing concern). I have undertaken a number of external reviews of governing bodies and compiled reports of my findings, highlighting areas of strength and those in need of development. When required, I worked with Governors post-review to support and advise them on what actions they needed to take to move their respective governing body forward.In January 2019 I took up the post of Governance & Compliance Manager at Enhance Academy Trust. This role involved many of the above duties, as well as ensuring that its academies were compliant and up-to-date in terms of policies, procedures and other statutory requirements. In June 2021 I returned to working for a large organisation, after successfully applying for the position of Business Support Manager - Governor Clerking Service, Kirklees Council.In April 2022 I was successful in my application for my current role with Barnsley MBC. My role is very similar to that which I had at Wakefield LA but with increased responsibilities, especially in relation to working with and supporting schools and Governors directly. I really enjoy the role I have within Barnsley and the positive impact that my work has in relation to supporting and strengthening governance arrangements in BMBC schools.I also work with regional colleagues as part of the Yorkshire and Humberside Governor Services Group (YHGSG).In January 2024 I became a Trustee at the Brigshaw Learning Partnership.
