Considered a pioneer of learning systems for Artificial Intelligence, Peter Bock is recently retired as Professor Emeritus of Engineering at The George Washington University (GWU). He has published several books, including "The Emergence of Artificial Cognition" and "Getting it Right: R&D Methods for Science and Engineering". He is often invited to give presentations in a variety of venues and has recently recorded a TED Talk, which can be found here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CpNfy7AUPl4After completing his graduate studies at Purdue University, Peter joined Project Apollo at NASA in 1964, eventually becoming Director of Orbital Simulation Software Development. After the first successful manned lunar landing in 1969, he joined the Computer Science faculty at GWU to build a new graduate program in Artificial Intelligence, which included courses in cognitive science and statistics. For the last 20 years his AI research has been funded by grants from industry and government, primarily to develop and deploy the well-known ALISA system. In addition to his technical background, Peter is broadly educated in the humanities and social sciences, with special interests in theatre, music, the history of technology and culture, cognitive science, and neonatal developmental psychology, which he deems essential knowledge to achieve his long-term research objective: the construction of an artificial sentient being with cognitive and emotional capabilities on a par with ours. For more detail about my academic career, please visit my Personal Website at GWU.
