- Assigned by senior management to eliminate ongoing critical outages at three data centers and to improve relationships between Systems Engineering and all supported groups.- Eliminated the critical outages by leading a team to re-engineer all of the server hardware and software, the network configuration, and the virtualization infrastructure. Created a positive atmosphere, encouraging teamwork, and re-built the relationships with internal organizations.- Reduced the number of Oracle Virtual Machine environment crashes from 260 servers per week to 12 server outages per month by investigating issues with an HP firmware patch, reported the problem to HP, instigating an HP critical update, which addressed the problem.- Saved the company over $2.5 million in licensing costs for the renewal of Red Hat Linux license contracts by working with Red Hat to develop a comprehensive list of all servers using Red Hat products, thereby obtaining a single contract with a much more significant bulk renewal price discount.- Engineered system settings and policies to comply with PCI and SOX security requirements for credit card processing and government contracts. A key member of the company-wide task force that set the PIC/SOX standards for all operating systems within Verizon. - Significantly reduced the labor hours of server engineers needed to check individual network connections of 3,000 servers during re-engineering of the storage network by developing an automated script that checked unique connections in minutes, not hours. - Was requested to consult as a Linux expert on an external project where 20 servers were at 98% utilization. Twenty additional servers were on order, and the project needed a temporary fix to increase capacity. Brought utilization to 20%, a 78% reduction, and completely eliminated the need for additional servers by analyzing and modifying the current servers and software.
